New Lamp!!

1 Attachment(s)
I bought myself a new lamp. not for quilting , just for my living room. I've wanted one for over 10 years but they were always too expensive. then our old one blew and i had to buy one that would allow a lot of wattage. my hubby loves to read but his eyes are bad. so another brass one! hate brass anymore.
this one actually has 3 one hundred watt bulbs so he could use it but he has the brass one!! I put this one in a corner. Tough putting it together by myself but i did it. love it!! Lamps Plus is where i got it.

that is pretty, native texan. 300 watts?!? you could land an airplane with it, lol.

Very Pretty!! Is 100 watt bulbs "safe" for the lamp?

tsnana2000 05-24-2012 05:41 PM

Very pretty!

It's beautiful . . . but I just can't imagine a lamp with three 100 watt bulbs! That hurts my eyes, just thinking about it!

joysewer 05-24-2012 06:55 PM

Very pretty!!!

I didn't think you could buy 100 watt bulbs anymore. Or ... at some point in the future you won't be able to. If you like them, you might want to stock up.

I am stocking up on all wattages of incandescent bulbs......I refuse to use those mercury filled things that will be replacing Edison's invention.......I figure I should have enough bulbs to last a lifetime be the time I am finished.....

Very pretty lamp-but cut back to 40 watt-or the coil ones-less watts and more light from 3-that is what we use too

nativetexan 05-25-2012 08:45 AM

of course you can buy 100 watt bulbs. the store had the newer kind in their lamp, the swirling ones. i hate those but will one day be stuck using them. the lamp my hubby uses has a center one of 150 watts and three 60 watt ones. all on at the same time. I doubt i'll ever have all three bulbs on at the same time but at least i know my hubby could read by it if it ever became a necessity.

Very beautiful lamp...thanks for sharing.

That is one beautiful lamp !!

glassdriller 05-25-2012 12:40 PM

If your glass of the lamp starts feeling too warm to the touch, you might want to switch to the newer bulbs that give off less heat. 300 watts just might soften the solder holding it together, then it wouldn't be so pretty.

I LOVE your new lamp. It would actually make a beautiful quilt square.

nativetexan 05-25-2012 01:01 PM

After unpacking it I found it was made in China. i do try not to buy items made there. There was a note that the product was made with lead and to be sure to wash my hands after handling it! Grrrr. oh well, i don't have to touch it much now.

KwiltyKahy 05-25-2012 03:34 PM

That lamp is beautiful. It would make a great quilt design, too.

I love your lamp, and I love 100 watt light bulbs! You go Texan! from one Texan to another Texan!!!

quilter1942 05-26-2012 07:24 AM

Very pretty,if it feels hot, switch to 75 watts.I am also stocking up on reg.bulbs.When some bueracratic commitee says I have to use a certain thing, gets my back up.And as for more money to use the regular,it`s my money. When people have 1 of the swirly ones explode above your head, showering glass everywhere as I did about a year ago, then maybe a lot will realize the old ways are better.

I was told in a store (Home Depot? Lowe's?) that because of the mercury problem, those bulbs will be phased out and replaced with something less dangerous. No idea when, though. Isn't it dumb that in addition to the danger of broken glass (if they break), we have to worry about mercury ... ?

nativetexan 05-26-2012 12:21 PM

I'm thinking of getting some 75 or even 60 watt bulbs for now. and the newer bulbs have gas in them that is bad for the environment. you can't toss them into our regular garbage. irritating.

overdew 05-26-2012 03:43 PM

I suggest it be named the light of Damascus!

Sheila_H 05-26-2012 06:49 PM

I love your lamp we just bought a couple of hanging lamps similar in style I call them the tiffany lamps we now have one in the dining room and one over the island in the kitchen I'll post photos of them later if I can. Our light's however say not to use anything over 60 watts, and NOT to use those new bulbs as they get too hot. I'd love to have that lamp lol

Sheila_H 05-26-2012 06:52 PM

I'm with the others that are stockpiling the old style lightbulbs I've seen a lot of bad press about these new ones, our recycle dept here in the community won't take the new ones to be disposed of so what are we supposed to do with them.

Caswews 05-28-2012 05:34 PM

Nice lamp .. and one has to do what one has to do !!
