New season of Downton Abbey

Begins January 4th, 2015 here in the U.S. That seems like such a long way away, but we're halfway through this year already!

I bought all 4 seasons and watched them over the course of a few weeks. I am totally hooked on this show.

I can't stand that sleazy Thomas Barrow, someone should wipe that snarky look off his face. :)

My favorite character is Violet, Lady Edith is wonderful also.

Can't wait for the new season - Downton Abbey is such a good show!

I agree but the evilness that Barrow brings to the show, it would NOT have all the fascinating twist and turns. It will be interesting to see the paths that Mary and Edith along with their BIL take in season 5.

I'm finishing up my Downton Abbey Quilt to cuddle up with when watching the show!

Speaking of Downton Abbey....our local quilt store, the Sticthery in Howell,Mi., has a quilt made from the Downton fabric line that is just beautiful! I didn't care to much for the line, save a few of the fabrics but they brought it all together! Also while visiting in Delaware my family (all but me) went to the Downton exhibit all said it was a wonderful exhibit. It is at Winterthur Gardens.

I'm hooked on the show too! Can hardly wait for season 5 to come out on DVD--I understand that this next season will show quilts on the beds -- and then you can go to the Andover website to get the patterns to make the same quilts. In fact you can get the free patterns now. When I was on a shop hop in Colorado I bought fat quarters of all the Downton Abbey fabrics and hope to get a quilt made from them. Who knows when that project will get done!

PBS also did a program on the actual estate that it's location shots are filmed. It was very interesting. I am also hooked on the show.

I'm hooked too.

Snooze2978 07-27-2014 04:23 AM

Yes, I think someone here mentioned this series and I started watching it halfway thru season 4. Well, I got hooked and found all 4 series in one box at Walmart so picked it up to watch from the start. Then I mentioned it to another lady online and her hubby ordered it for her to watch. Can't wait till January to start watching again.

And for you ladies that watch Cedar Cove, it started back this month. I have a DVR so set it to record all my favorites and then watch them later fast forwarding thru the commercials. Can't get any better than that.

Doggramma 07-27-2014 05:35 AM

I should probably watch it. I've amassed quite a collection of the fabrics!

Bought all four seasons. Can't wait? Anyone watch the one about Selfridge ? I hope I spelled it right.

judykay 07-27-2014 07:54 AM

I just went to Andover's web site and they have several beautiful patterns for the downton abbey fabric collection. I also am hooked on the show and just started watching Cedar Cove on demand, did not know it started back up until I happen to be browsing on demand looking for something to watch. Both great shows.

cashs_mom 07-27-2014 08:03 AM

I LOVE Downton Abbey!

Yes, I've gotten hooked on Selfridge, too. And I watch all the Masterpiece Mysteries.

I have watched all of Downton Abbey and love Mr. Selfridge just as much. Wouldn't it have been fun if we could see the Downton people shopping at Selfridge's?

Ii love Cedar Cove too! It looks like a nice place to live. Another series that is good is Janette okes "when Calls the Heart" it's set in a mining town in western Canada.

Would you mind posting a link. I went to the Andover site, and received a message that no patterns are available for the Downton collection. Thanks!

I went back to the web site and a different home page came up and at the top is a link for the pattern page, there you will see a place on the right to type in what you are looking for. Wheni did this I needed to scroll down to the bottom where I found a pattern called Lady Rose collection. The next page will have more and the collection is beautiful. I have a gift certificate for my favorite quilt store so I am going to look them over to find which one I want to do.

I will have to check out Cedar Coe, I have never heard of that one. I also love the call of the Mid Wives

dc989 07-28-2014 07:33 AM

Love Downton too esp Edith. Another great British series is Call the Midwife. It might be hard to follow unless you watch from the first episode. It is on Netflix.

judykay 07-28-2014 07:44 AM

In my area Call the Midwife was cancelled as the main character wanted to pursue something different. It was a very good series.

I love Call the Midwife. I wondered at the end of the 2nd season when she left what was going to happen as the series was based on her memoirs. Too bad- it was very good.

CookyIN 07-28-2014 08:04 AM

Love Downton Abbey! I could watch the shows again and again and always hear or see something I missed the first time around. I also love it that we're seeing such great fashions now!

noveltyjunkie 09-21-2014 02:53 PM

Just watched episode 1 of the new series on ITV. Plenty of action- that's all I'm saying!

annt59 09-21-2014 06:47 PM

Call the Midwife will have a 4th season. March 29th, 2015. Isn't that great news?

Cybrarian 09-21-2014 07:12 PM

I also like Lark Rise to Candleford. Brendan Coyle who plays Mr. Bates is also a character in Lark Rise.
