a new suggestion for a quilt
 

I was at a craft show this weekend and it was over 95 degrees. Someone came up to my booth and suggested I make a quilt with an icepack in the middle for days like this - interesting idea!

Huh! just this week I was thinking about how I could make a cooling mat for Mr. Sheltie. When we do even a quick check the mail and leave messages run at noon in 107 degree 60% humidity he heads for the tiled floors and pants for at least 30 min. Caught myself thinking about how I could get those water holding seeds into some sort of cooler pad for him. I'm talking about the little pellets that you put into the neck coolers that you chill in the fridge. Watching to see what pops up on this topic.

Sounds counter productive - if it's hot enough for an ice pack isn't it too hot to wrap up in a quilt - no matter how much ice is in the middle of it!

take a pc of material n run lines thru it, fill with the seeds and close up just wet it all and let the puppy lay on it.

Make him a collar out of it. Wouldn't that would keep him cooler?

At those temp.s I don't think any dog should be going for a run. I can't believe people should be running in that heat either. At least it is their decision and they don't have someone telling them they have to.

I'm sure on here I have read about spraying starch and then putting in the freezer/fridge that would be cool to put round you . Would it be damp as well. .

Not a bad idea. I take an ice pack to bed with me every night.

As someone who uses ice packs on shoulders and backs, an ice pack quilt might be a good idea!

Sheltie's Mom, you you tried to convince Mr. Sheltie to stay inside when you check the mail? You might try freezing a bandanna for him to wear, not sure if it would help. When we used to take kittens to adoption events during the summer we would set the kennel on top of the re-freezable ice packs. Kept the kennels nice and cool, so you might make him a mat out of the ice packs and a towel.
