Next week to Paducah

I'm so excited about our vacation next week. DH and I are taking the granddaughters (age 10 and 16) to Nashville
next week. But Grandma gets to make a stop in Paducah! I've been saving my spare change for a major shopping spree. I think my older GD just want to see Music Row and the "cowboys in their tight blue jeans" (Yes I do remember what is was like to be 16!) Can't wait to see what treasures I come home with.

Well, if you have never been to Hancock's of Paducah you MUST go - but you won't find anything on sale - just full regular prices. It is not a "cutsey" quilt shop - but a full fledged fabric store - lots of upholstery fabrics too. Be sure to go into their "back room" - ask if you cannot find it. They do have some remnants at a discount price. But, they will have one of the biggest selection of quilting fabric in the entire world. There is a cute quilt shop downtown called Quilter's Alley - and then there is Eleanor Burns fabric store downtown.

Edited to add: There is the Quilt Museum there also. But, don't know that your family would want to go.

while you are shopping, DH can take the DGDs to view the murals along the river. they are very educational

I think your family might really enjoy the quilt museum. It is more like an art gallery than a quilt gallery. The couple of times that I have been I had non-quilters with me (they had relatives in the area, so I had to take them!) and they all loved it.

I think you better take more than spare change! It's a quilters mecca. Wish I were going again.

Quilter's Alley is a great place -- the owner is very nice. I didn't buy anything at Hancocks, but bought quite a bit from QA. Have fun!

The kids will like the museum more than they think they will...they need to see the wooden quilt (you'd think it was fabric) it isn't stuffy at all and if you go on Wed. the YoYo ladies will be in the lobby quilting.
