Not missing at the nursing home

1 Attachment(s)
Someone posted recently about a quilt gone missing at the nursing home despite the recipient's name being quilted in the quilting. Well, about 20 years ago, my grandmother was in a home and I'd heard about things going missing. She liked red and sunshine. So I knit this for her... it never went missing :)

That is hilarious! It must have been a lot of work and you are obviously a super knitter! Your Grandma must have loved it, I know I do.

barny 02-08-2012 02:51 PM

I love it! That is fabulous. No one would dare take it.

nativetexan 02-08-2012 04:46 PM

Ha, ha. I love your solution!!! great idea and it evidently worked! my sister was evacuated from a therapy place due to a hurricane coming and the quilt i made her was gone when she went back. duh! she should have evacuated it too! ( i had embroidered her name in the quilt too-bet someone was surprised).

BluegrassGurl 02-08-2012 04:51 PM

maryb119 02-08-2012 06:15 PM

ranbro 02-09-2012 04:48 AM

Now that was a very smart idea.

marymay 02-09-2012 05:25 AM

So SMART of you. A great thing to do. I made my Father in Law a quilt with his name all oiver it. Never got lost either.

I work in a nursing home and you would not believe some of the stories. Both good and bad about employees and families. Yes things come up missing. Once it was a vacuum cleaner. If there is no name on an item, they go to lost and found--check there. Go to social services or housekeeping supervisor and lodge a complaint, they will help to look for it. You would not believe the amount of things that land in lost and found that remain unclaimed.

Funny and smart all at one time! It's amazing that you could knit her name in like that - bet she got a kick out of it!

kydeb 02-09-2012 08:34 AM

That's hilarious!!! Love it!!

Lori S 02-09-2012 08:36 AM

What a great way to make sure it never gets "lost".

JoanneS 02-09-2012 11:43 AM

JanieH 02-09-2012 03:50 PM

serenitybygrace 02-09-2012 07:13 PM

I love your great idea!

Ha, Ha - that's a good one. Also a good thing you didn't miss spell any thing - hee, hee, hee. You might have knited it, but it shows you to be a QUILTER at heart. We do know how to make things work, and make some thing out of as little as a name, fav. color, etc..... You did good and I am sure your grandmother loved it.

AUQuilter 02-10-2012 06:54 AM

Smart idea!! And a great security system.

amandasgramma 02-10-2012 07:09 AM

OUTSTANDING! LOL Now if we could just figure out what to put on their dentures!!!! I worked at a nursing home, in the alzheimer's/stroke ward ---- the dentures kept getting moved around!!!!!

collady 02-10-2012 08:07 AM

Such a clever idea! I love knitting words into to my creations.

QuiltnNan 02-10-2012 08:49 AM

thanks, all for your kind comments. i love the dentures post - maybe the makers of dentures could take a hint and 'tattoo' the name on them where not seen when worn

cat2quilt 02-10-2012 10:07 AM

That was a brillant idea.

Your grandmother's knitted blanket reminds me of the bank robber running out with the cash when the red smoke bomb goes off. Try running away that blanket! Or maybe we could start putting the chips like they put in dogs and cats to locate them when they get lost (or stolen.)

BETTY62 02-10-2012 09:50 PM

I love the quilt you knitted for your Grandmother and your since of humor.
