Started the day out with a good old Thunderstorm at 5:00 am this morning. 2 kids come running down to Mommy and Daddy. 15 minutes later a MAJOR power surge hit the house. Tripped 6 breakers and fried some other things. Luckily I had unplugged my sewing machine about 10 min before the surge. Old habbits come in handy, so, while I waited for repair people to show up, I was at least able to do some sewing. :-) Could not checkup on all my friends on the board since the internet was out, but at least I could sew. Now to check up on what has been happening today.

So glad nothing major - the sewing machine - :) was damaged.
Hate when those things happen. This past summer, the transformer on the electric pole by our house exploded and we were without power for almost 2 days!

Oh man I hope that your day will end better then it started. I am really glad that you "saved" your machine. We had a surge a couple months ago from a lightning storm and it blew out our TV and it was actully OFF when it hit and even had a power surger bar.

Glad you saved the sewing machine. Surges can be really bad.

Someone posted here awhile ago about getting a house power surger thing- not sure what it is but I want one.
Does anyone know what I'm talking about??

Moana- glad your machine is okay !

We had rain all day and a few rumbles of thunder. After the summer we had, I will not complain. Glad things are alright in your neck of the woods.

Power surge strips come in different surge "protection." You need a surge protection to the most you can afford. A house surge protection would protect from the meter or electric box for a high power surge. Most of us home owners just protect our electiconics, (tvs, computers, etc.) in power strips which is fine for small surges but if lighting comes in... forget it. They are just to much for most power strips.

I just make it a habit to unplug my sewing machine when not in use.
