"Note to self"
 

Last week I had an eye exam and got new glasses ordered.

Today I get the call that they came in. So I hightail it Americas
Best and picked up my new glasses.

After leaving (and wearing said new glasses) I proceed to complete
running my errands for the day. From the time I got my glasses until
I return home 2 hours.

In that time frame I have discovered that trying to adjust to a new
pair of glasses (with bigger bifocal area) and driving only proved to
not be a good mix for me. I arrive home with a queasy stomach and
a major headache.

Lesson learned (at least for this go round). Now to take some Tylenol
and lay down and hope the queasy stomach fades FAST.

On a side note though I DID find a new eyeglass case that just CALLED
my name, and for anyone who might know me (very few do though), they
will totally understand about this case.

Mine is black and white cow hide.

I know the queasy feeling. When I got bifocals for the first time I felt awful. And to make matters worse is the lens have a slight curve. So things looked a little wavy too....LOL

Glad you made it home safe! Took me a month to get used to my graduated lenses. Well worth it though!

I am not new to bifocals, this is my second prescription with the bifocals.

However in the last pair the bifocal was NEVER strong enough and no matter
how many times I "complained" about it they never would "fix" it.

I have the no line progressive lenses that has a wider (and taller) view. But in
general the whole prescription is much stronger especially for my left eye which
according to the eye Dr. the astigmatism has gotten markedly worse in that eye.

Hope you adjust to them soon!!!

It usually takes me a little while to get used to new glasses too. Sorry you have a headache. Probably wearing them around the house will help you get used to them without the stress of looking around like driving. I don't know you but I do like your new glass case. Hope you feel better soon.

I've worn glasses (and/or contact lenses) for 40 years. The last four years it has been glasses only. Last year I went in for an exam and my left eye changed, the dr. said it was a small change but enough that I ordered new glasses as well as a pair of prescription sunglasses (a first for me). When I tried on the glasses I went on and on to the woman who does the glasses about how big a difference it felt, how it was going to take so much time to adjust, etc. The sunglasses seemed fine to me but she kept insisting she needed to send them back to have them darkened. I finally agreed and left the sunglasses with her but took the eyeglasses home. I didn't dare drive in them b/c the change was too great. I kept trying to wear them but couldn't and was nervous about driving in them. I thought, boy, I really am getting old because I used to adjust so quickly to changes like this. Well, the sunglasses finally came back and I picked them up. I drove in them. They felt fine. Finally, one day it dawned on me, (DUH!) why are the sunglasses not bothering me a bit but I'm totally avoiding wearing the new eyeglasses? (I had continued wearing the old ones.) The Rx should be the same! When I called her to complain (which I had complained again when I picked up the sunglasses) she said I just needed to adjust to them but finally agreed to check my chart. The had filled the glasses a complete power higher on the left eye!! No wonder I couldn't adjust.

Moral of my story, are you sure it's the correct prescription? and they are adjusted on your face properly (that can make a difference, too). Sorry to rant, I was pretty upset that she hadn't listened to me when I was complaining in the first place, although I do realize that they probably get a lot of complaints and that some times it really is just a matter of adjusting to a new prescription.

The first time I got bifocals they were the graduated lenses. I was told by technician to point my nose where I wanted to look. I know that sounds weird, but it works. It didn't take any time at all to adjust to them.

Today seems to be better with the new glasses. At least I don't have a queasy
stomach, and the headache is not nearly as bad as it was yesterday.

I have been wearing glasses since i was 4 years old so you can say nearly my
whole life (I am 48). In all those years I have only tried to wear contacts once
about 12 years ago. The eye Dr put me in a toric (ridged) lens and for the 6
months that I had them it felt like someone stuck a baseball in my eye.

When I talked to the eye Dr with this visit, I told him I would like to try contacts
again but I didn't want hard or torics. He told me that with the significant amount
astigmatism that I had especially in my left eye that he could give me soft contacts
but that the amount of vision loss would be so high that I would have to wear glasses
to compensate the difference.

Well heck if I am going to have to wear glasses that way I may as well forget about
the contacts.


As for the significance of the case it is in my TWO favorite colors, it was almost
like this case was made for me (which I know it wasn't).

Cute case! Getting used to eyeglasses is a little unnerving the first couple of days I have found. It's good we can adjust to them though!

Well, I've worn glasses or contacts for many years. Since I have dry eye syndrome, I can no longer wear contacts. the last contacts I tried over 10 years ago were actually "bifocal" Talk about having to adjust to them which I never did so I just went back to glasses.

Now I'm having vision problems and the dr can't figure out exactly what's wrong. I've almost lost all vision in my right eye which has always been weaker. But I couldn't even read the top line on the chart...could only see tops of letters. Then they did the "color book test" which is like those prints you see at the mall where if you look at it long enough, you can make out the actual subject in it. I didn't even pass the test with my right eye..(sometimes I think they try to trick you!) My dr just looks at me like "are you serious"? Well, yes!! So now I have an apt with a retina specialist and then will go see a neurologist. I did this routine 2 years ago and none of the doctors could figure out what was wrong.

I wear the progressive lens and usually don't have any problems with them. Right now though, if I stay on computer too long, both eyes will become so blurred I can't see anything!!! Dr did say that I needed cataract surgery in boh eyes but he won't do it until all other options have been explored.

My little 2.5 yo grandson had to start wearing glasses about 4 months ago. The glasses frame is rubber and the lens are acrylic. He is so cute in them!!

Bifocals are the pits until you get used to them. I fell off curbs, upstairs, and stumbled around like a drunken sailor. When they offered me tri-focals I had a fit but adjusted to them overnight. Courage and some Tylenol will get you through! Good luck!

Many years ago I got a new pair of glasses. They gave me really bad headaches. I took them back and they said the prescription was out of alignment, they would a man with the widest spread eyes headaches.. They sent them back, got the prescrpiton fixed and no more headaches. Have them check them out thoroughly.

Oh I feel your pain. I have been wearing glasses for almost 50 years and have never had trouble adjusting to a new prescription . . . until I got trifocals. Never did the bifocals, went from single focus to trifocal and walked around dizzy and with a headache for days. I have had them for about 4 years now, and am on my second pair but I still hate them. I have complained, changed doctors, changed labs and still can't see for sh--. I am just marking time until the doctor can find evidence of cataracts, then it is surgery and new eyes for me. He would do the surgery today, but insurance won't pay for it until he finds a cataract.

Sometimes the problem with the glasses is NOT you, it's the glasses themselves. They aren't fit right to your face. Queezyness and dizzyness should NOT happen when you put them on. Take them back and have them fitted to you again.

I have worn glasses for a lot of years. The first pair of bifocals I got did to me what you are experiencing. I could not wear them (falling, tripping,etc.). After several trips back to dr they discovered that the line on one one different than the other. When they had that lens redone everything was fine and I had on trouble. Many years ago my husband got glasses that felt really strange. He had to teach a class that first evening after picking them up. As a joke heput them on upside down and guess what -- they worked fine. Dr said he had never had a pair of glasses with the lenses reversed.

Your doctor says you need cataract surgery but he will not do it unless all other options have been explored??? I suggest you get a second opinion stat and maybe get referred to a cataract specialist! I have worn glasses since I was 6 years old and got contacts at age 11 "in order to slow down the progression of my nearsightedness". By the time I was 11, my eyes were already at -10.0 dioptrie. I am 48 this year and started having mild cataracts about 10 years ago. Two years ago, the left eye cataract was ripe enough to operate and my right eye will finally be done this March. The reason they had to operate my cataract was that I had extreme glare especially at night and my eye prescription could not be corrected anymore with stronger lenses. I was having issues with blurry vision and dry eyes. Have they done a glare test on you? You will look through a cone that is very brightly lit and asked to read letters from the reading chart. How about a visual field test? Any glaucoma/ high pressure in eyes? Your regular eye doctor should have looked at your optic nerve as well as your retina during a routine exam after dilating your eyes and if there were issues should have noticed something. I have holes in my retina due to my extreme nearsightedness (-11.5) that are being monitored and at times lasered annually by a retina specialist.

I love your glasses case because it is heart shaped!!!! Where did you find it? I REALLY need one like that. LOL

Progressive lens did not work for me :( I wear bifocals with lines and now don't even see the 'line'.

Had a new pair one time and they reversed the lens (left one in right and right one in left). Would you believe that I couldn't see work a darn :). Everyone makes mistakes.

My SIL got her first bifocals a couple months ago and she figured while up town she'd do her errands. W And ell she said she had a headache from h-ll - she was dizzy and once she was out of town she had to pull over to be sick. She now wears her glasses a little lower on her nose while driving so she doesn't ''get caught on the invisable line''---no more headaches or nausea. I do understand the bright eyeglass case. If you was to look inside my purse you'd think I was carrying my own personal rainbow. I can find what ever I need real quick now.

I'm so sorry for anyone who has to wear bifocals, I tried for years and hated every time I put them on so last spring I has surgery on both eyes, very expensive but at least I can see, even can thread a needle. Hope you can adjust and please be careful in the mean time.

I have worn bifocals for about 8 years. my first pair did take a little getting used to. The pair I got a couple of years ago drove me crazy. Headaches etc. They finally figured out that the line on one of the bifocals was a tiny bit off and remade one of the lenses. Now they are fine. Good luck. If they continue to bother you take them back, sometimes you have to go over and over and over.

No headache or queasy stomach at all today.

It too me a couple of weeks to adjust to my new bifocals. I was pretty sure they had messed up my prescription. Never had as much trouble as I did then. Hope you adjust fast. Beth

Wow I guess I was one of the lucky ones when I got my progressive glasses.

The person who did the fitting when I picked them up told me to look with my head (turn my head not my eyes) and I have not had any problems.

I am at the point of needing an other focal length. I have to look over my glasses to thread a needle to read really small print.

I have been near sighted all my life and do have astigmatism in both eyes.

Mum had her first eye operated on for cataracts last week. She is amazed at the difference. She cannot wait to have the other eye done in a month or so.

Just what she says LOL...I fell right over in a giant mall in AZ!!!

For me the headache and queasiness went away by the second day. Even with trifocals I still have to look over my glasses to thread a needle (and hold it about 2" from my eyes). I love the heart shaped case, I've never seen one like that. The only case for my glasses sits on my nightstand since the only time I'm not wearing them is when I'm sleeping.

When I had problems with my glasses it was the way they were cut. The curvature was wrong. They re-cut them and problem went away.

All is well with the world (at least for my glasses).
