Oahu & Maui Vacation any Quilt Scene advice?

At the end of November we are taking a once in a lifetime dream holiday to Oahu & Maui, Hawaii. While hubby and son go surfing, I want to check out the quilt scene, I have googled the shops. Thought I would consult you also, as to whether you have any advice on any must see and do? Thanks Vicki

Just search Maui quilt shops, then Oahu quilt shops. There are tons of them. I think I hit most of them. I was there about 12 years ago and their prices were much better than Hawaiian fabrics here in Calif. I filled some boxes and shipped them home. In 2013, we went to Kawai and Hawaii and there were several to hit there as well, but prices were higher. The Hawaiian fabrics were just wonderful and different from what we can get here. The shops there are pretty full of fabrics and patterns. I had a great time.

Hi Vicki, I shopped at Fabric Mart, The Calico Cat and Kaimuki Dry Goods. These stores are all in Honolulu. Also found some nice fabric at Walmart. You'll have a great time there. Enjoy.

Hi here are some pictures I took in a quilt store in Waikiki on Ohau island. This was on the main street that follows the beach.

Cant wait to go back !

There's a little shop in Lahaina on Maui. Can't remember the name but it is in a little shop center directly across the main drag from the Banyan Tree Park. Just ask at one of the information kiosks on the sidewalk. The clerk in this shop was so kind - her name was Fahima. I had fallen in the park and bloodied my elbow. She cared for me as if she had known me all her life. I purchased some fabric and a pineapple quilt pattern which I have since made, but not yet quilted. Say hello to Fahima for me.

*nod* I was in Oahu last year and I went to all three of these stores as well. The Dry Goods one was my personal favorite - I was there so long my poor DH fell asleep in their "husband chair"! In addition to Hawaiian prints, there's a lot of great Japanese prints and import fabrics at good prices. Lots of Japanese tourists and influence in Hawaii and I picked up some great Japanese indigo prints I've never seen here in CA. And prices were overall lower than what I pay around here, which was a nice bonus!

There's a great shop in Maui. I don't recall the name, but I've been there several times and each time the staff is very friendly. They have several quilts displayed so you can tell what the finished product will look like. Lots of Hawaiian fabric. The shop isn't that far from the airport. It's in an outdoor shopping mall. Just look it up online. That's how I found it. Good luck with your shopping. Enjoy your time in Hawaii. It's a special place.
