Before I got home from work yesterday afternoon, a fast moving violent storm went through and left leaves where they should not be! I drove into my driveway and looked up and saw leaves, lots of them on the top of the peak of my house! I have a really steep roof on a story and a hald house built in 1904 with an extra room on the back. The old black walnut tree that took over the house used to reside in the far opposite corner about 15 feet from the house. It is now on top of the addition and peeking over the roof! It knocked bricks off the rear chimney and made it difficult to use the back door. I have cleared it away so my dogs and I can use the back door and now I am waiting for call backs from tree people. There was lots worse damage in the area, and I am not critical. Still have power and just 4 little holes in the fascia in the back. I live alone with my critters, so I get to do all the clean up and........ :?
Didn't have time to post pictures earlier today where I have wireless connections so will post them tomorrow. Just another big mess to keep me away from my quilting.

OMG That's awful! At least everyones OK. Good luck with the clean up..

Shemjo 06-03-2009 01:18 PM

Thanks for the positive thoughts! We are having a cool down today, light rain this morning and still overcast. Heavy sweatshirt weather. No call backs yet, but I am not critical. There were branches through roofs and windows for some. I will wait and clean up what I can when it dries a bit.

Ouch! Glad you didn't have any major damage,
glad your critters were fine when you got home.
Hope the cleanup goes quickly for ya.

Sorry to hear about the mess and the holes but glad it didn't take your whole house down!! Wind and thunderstorms can be such a big pain in the rear!

MadQuilter 06-03-2009 02:15 PM

Hope the mess is cleaned up soon and you are back at the machine.

Hope you get things cleaned up soon, AND I hope this is NOT the start of the weather ya'll had, what 2 years ago? Isn't that when everthing flooded?

Shemjo 06-03-2009 03:15 PM

We have had some flooding here in St. Louis, just last fall! 2 people were swept away when a drainage "creek" overflowed. That happened only a couple miles south of where I live. They had some flash flooding yesterday, but nothing major this time! Thank God, this one was just property damage.

Sorry to hear about that. We're certainly having strange weather this spring, aren't we? We keep having hail storms here.

So sorry to hear about the tree and damage to your house! I hope it can be cleaned up fairly quickly and the tree guys get to your home soon. Happy to hear that you and your pets are okay!!!

Shemjo 06-03-2009 04:57 PM

It has turned quite cool and seems to have energized the critters! Just took the dogs for a ride and they came back and wanted to play outside for a bit! Then they want a treat when they come back inside. They certainly have me trained!

I guess the good news is that it didn't damage your stash :? Seriously, though, I'm sorry to hear about your damage and hope it's repaired quickly.

What a mess. Mother Nature can really do us in, can't she.

Shemjo 06-04-2009 07:10 PM

Well, I have had 2 tree guys come by and see the tree. I have 2 bids, $1000 apart. Another guy is coming in the morning and another guy on Monday. And I called my insurance company rep. Ugh! I don't wish this on anyone! Will keep you in the loop! :?

Marcia 06-04-2009 07:53 PM

I am glad to hear that you and your "critters" are okay--the rest is a major nuisance, but can eventually be cleaned up. I am sorry you are having to deal with this. Mother Nature sure has her mean side too.

Mousie 06-04-2009 07:57 PM

So sorry for you. Do you have kids that can come help? We have twisters, etc. here and I'se scared of dem!
So glad it wasn't worse, but sounds plenty bad enough. Glad you weren't home, and your 'family', is ok! boy, if they could talk! hugs, c

Shemjo 06-07-2009 09:14 AM

Tree is gone. Took the third guy with the bid in the middle! And he could do it on Saturday, so it is mostly gone and cleaned up. Don't know about damage to the house. All I can see is the fascia board is damaged, and the guttering in the back, but I haven't been up there to look for myself. :?

Ninnie 06-07-2009 11:11 AM

Great, glad you're making progress! :D

Mplsgirl 06-07-2009 11:27 AM

Glad you're okay!
