Welllll....we bit the bullet. I had an 05 Honda Civic with 180,000 miles on it and I commute 120 miles a day for work . The car had $7500 worth of damage done by a deer to the front end when it was two months old and then in October of 2010 I was rear ended doing another $4500 worth of damage. So my $10,000 civic has had $12,000 worth of work done to it lol. It now needs new tires, timing, oxygen sensor....It doesn't owe us anything at this point. It has done us well though so I can't complain. So we went and purchased a new car however I am just not looking forward to car payments as the Civic was paid off in 2009....sigh it is what it is I guess lol We bought a Dodge Avenger and it is in my favorite color-orange!!! I will post pictures as soon as I pick it up...hopefully tomorrow.
Hugs
April

Use your new car in good health.

Orange is a lucky color for a car. We had a 1975 Orange and white Scout till the late 90s when my DH had to quit driving, and it nearly broke his heart to sell it. Sold the second person who saw it, he kept it so immaculate and tuned up. Every 3 thousand miles it got new liquids in it, no matter what the manual said.

Good Luck with your new Orange car.

Hey April, Since you like orange so much maybe you can give me some help/hints about the quilt I need to make for my DGD who loves orange. It will be twin size so she can take it with her to college in the Fall and use it as her bedcover. I normally would first pick a focus fabric that had orange in it, and then add orange and other colors from the focus fabric. Problem is that there doesn't seem to any nice patterns with orange in them. What do you think of a two color quilt, many different oranges with a cream fabric? May in Jersey

Hi, April, congrats on the new car! Haven't seen you posting in a while and glad to see you!

Yay for you April....you bought a new car to match your Hug Quilt! That makes me feel so much better about buying a new car to match my Ralph Lauren Sunglasses!

LOL, I have a massive ORANGE 1999 F-250 Power Stroke Diesel PU/truck. It's a monster but a healthy one. It looks brand new cept for the little dent I put in the door. Darn it.

Congrats on your new car. I don't think I have ever seen a orange color.

My husband keeps threatening me with a new car.

I have my choice of a 2001 Dodge Challenger or a 2011 Dodge Ram Pick-up.

I have a few months to decide to take him up on his threat.
My truck will be paid off next April.

Sounds like the Civic served you well, but I completely understand having to make payments again.

cathyvv 07-04-2011 06:58 PM

Good luck with the new car! I, too, hate car payments!

Hint for your next new car - when this one is paid off, keep making the payments, but make them to your savings account. When it comes time to buy the next one, you can pay cash. Or if you have an emergency, you have a stash of money to cover it.

You got to buy an orange car! I am so jealous, my husband would never let us drive a fun color like that! Need to make a quilt now to match it, you know when you are snoozing on long trips you need a matching quilt to snuggle under.

Congratulations on your new ride!

Ditto! I don't believe in paying interest on vehicles or credit cards. I guess it's the generation I grew up in.

Thank you everyone! I am excited because it will be much more comfortable for the long drive to work.
We did put away the civic payments when it was done but ran in to some things that had to be done in the house soooo. I work for a Credit Union so the payment will pay my salary lol (I guess there is an upside to that payment it will help keep me employed :D )
May I will send you a PM-I have a lot of ideas for you for the orange as I have one quilt done in Orange, black & yellow and I am working on what I call My Creamsicle quilt which is all oranges.
Thank you all again. I will post pictures soon!
Hugs
April
PS Nanamom I have been mostly posting in the swaps I host. Hubby had surgery and my numbness nor the IH issues are getting much better so I do not spend as much time on the board :(
