What an awful experience ! I had a nasty virus/flu and could take nothing while pregnant , not fun. Happy those days are over !

Definitely needs to go to the Dr. There is a shot now that works wonders. The vaccine is also available for those not having had Shingles - yet. The state health departments are much cheaper than the drugstore.

Again will let her know and pray these can help !!

Chicken Pox/shingles is caused by a virus, so antibiotics will not help.

My mistake. It's "antiviral" meds you need. Huz & I both had cancer/treatment, hence we both got shingles. Neither of us can ever get the shot.

This site has all the info you need on shingles, including who should NOT ever get the shot for shingles:

OUCH, they hurt. I had them a little over a year ago. There are drugs that will help... Has he been to a doctor? My sympathy goes out to him. Horrible situation. a gentle hug for him.

I have been there and got the Valtrex. Took forever to get over the pain, probably due to a very stressful job. I still have some residual pain when things get hairy! Wouldn't wish shingles on anyone!

I had them three years ago, and the Dr. gave me some pain med. I found out from trial and error on my part that the only thing that help with the terrible itch for me was using a soft cloth dipped in white vinegar every time I started itching. All other creames and suggestions from others didn't work for me. I feel so sorry for him, The pain is terrible. I wouldn't even wish shingles on my most disliked.

I have heard that the shot costs $300 and that medicare does not pay for it. Like most shots you can still get it but not as bad.
