Oklahoma Storm
Does anyone know an organization collecting quilts, pillow cases, etc for the people of Moore Oklahoma. I would like to send the few that I have to them..

Send money to the Salvation Army or Red Cross instead. People whose homes have blown away don't have a place to keep quilts or pillowcases. But they are going to need to be fed.

Every single news show is talking about it - don't send "stuff" - send money to Red Cross or Salvation Army or another organization of your choice that is helping out.
Maybe someday when things are rebuilt and have to be re-furnished there will be a place for bedding and quilts. |
I always do money to the Red Cross or Salvation Army. They had to find warehouses to put all the stuff people sent to Sandy Hook after the tragedy there.

Thanks for the info everybody...my church group wanted to know as well. I guess we'll wait till there is a request for stuff!

Hi missgigglewings, I live in Moore and if you want to send me the quilts I will find someone who can used them, I know there is someone out there that would love a quilt to snuggle in. I will also check with the churches to see if there is a need for them, but however it's hard to get around in the area right now and fema is asking us to stay away until all people who are missing have been accounted for...

http://sskcraftshop.com that will take you to OKS Modern Quilt Guild status. Lot of different guilds getting together accepting quilts and tops. They are very near Moore, OK. Saw it on FACEBOOK

My Son in law lost an Uncle in the Shawnee tornado. They are requesting cash donations for right now. Thanks to everyone here for your thoughts and prayers.

Thank you SingerSewer...this is exactly what we were looking for! Im going to whip up a couple more before I send the box. I have done so many Project linus quilts...I think I can get a couple of more done this weekend!

It's good to see that the board members around Moore are OK, as well as other areas in the state. We are fine around Barnsdall. Had one touch down about 10 miles away that went east instead of west towards us. For people asking about donations, this is what is on the list from several news stations in the state. I'm sure the need for clothing, blankets, etc will come soon as people are allowed back in areas to recover personal items and find housing. I fully agree with BellaBoo- the Red Cross, not on my list. I know they get the most publicity and the big donations like Kevin Durant gave, but other organizations spend more of the money they take in on the people who are in need. The Oklahoma Baptist Disaster Relief group is made up of volunteers from Baptist churches who travel to areas to assist in disaster relief, such as the Joplin and Alabama tornados, etc. Good group of people.

REGIONAL FOOD BANK OF OKLAHOMA The Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma, in partnership with Oklahoma Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster, is asking that the public support all rescue, recovery and disaster relief efforts with donations of cash to your favorite rsponding charity. Donations of items such as clothing and supplies are strongly discouraged. UNITED WAY OF CENTRAL OKLAHOMA United Way of Central Oklahoma has activated its disaster relief fund, so individuals may give specifically to the May tornadoes relief and recovery efforts. Fund dollars will be distributed without administrative fees to United Way Partner Agencies working on the tornado relief efforts. I live in Mountain view, Oklahoma and my church is getting things ready to take there. One of the tornado victims is a grandson to a friend. He is going to find a place that we can send them to where people will be able to get bedding, clothing, towels and toiletries. I am so thankful that we have not had to deal with that type of disaster here.
