I've made a few! My grandmother (born in 1900) always wore a bonnet and apron except when she was going to church. I have one of her bonnets framed and hanging in my sewing room. I looked and looked for a bonnet pattern that was exactly like her bonnet and finally found one at Buckaroo Bobbins. Here is a link to the pattern on amazon.com. http://www.amazon.com/Violas-Bonnet-...ckaroo+bobbins It was easy to make and matched my grandmother's bonnet perfectly. Bonnets bring back such great memories!!

Yes, I have made bonnets. My mother wore them at home and she made pastel colored everyday ones and also, "church" bonnets in black, navy and other dark colors for herself and others. She inserted corrugated cardboard in the slatted ones and stiffened buckram in the brims of the dressy ones. They wore them when they traveled. It is an old custom from Victorian days when they had traveling costumes.

I just made an old time dress and bonnet for our granddaughter's settler's day in school. She was so cute in it.

I made a dress and bonnet for my granddaughters when they came to the one-room school for a field trip. (I was the teacher.) I used a pattern, and the dress was fine, but the bonnet was way too large; more for an adult. Four of my granddaughters have worn the dress and bonnet, and a few friends as well. When the girls come to the school, very many of them have the prairie dresses and bonnets. They look soooo cute! And the boys wear suspenders, knickers and straw hats. One grandson has been there, and the last one is coming next month.

Yes, I have made them in 3 different styles
1-Regular bonnet with back neck shield, quilted brim
2-Bonnet is a circle with the brim buttoned onto it
3-Bonnet makes into an apron when unbuttoned

Gosh this brings back memories...My late mother-in-law always wore them when she worked in the garden. She made hers and gave me a pattern (for number 1 above) cut from newspaper.

Thank you all for your input. I have a friend that is wanting one to wear fishing. She says her hats keep blowing away.

Did you mean to send me a PM?

Who is KarenR?

I made several a few years ago. I had a pattern, I think it was the Ozarks Crafts pattern. I think I still have two of the bonnets and the pattern somewhere. I do like them.

That link is soooo cool- checked out her other patterns and it takes you back in time. I love the undergarment pattern, and the western dresses.
