Old TV Shows with Singer Sewing Machine Ads on Amazon
 

I was watching Amazon tv shows yesterday and I had two Four Star Playhouse programs (sponsored by Singer Sewing machines) from 1953 in my list that I wanted to watch. One was called "The Girl On The Park Bench" with Joan Fontaine and the other was called "Ladies on His Mind" with Ronald Coleman. These short plays contained long, lovely black and white Singer sewing machine ads in them. Advertising the straight stitch sewing machines, the slant needle sewing machines, and the swing stitch sewing machines (zig zag and decorative stitches) along with cabinets,tables and toy sewing machines. It was a lot of fun to see the ads. I'm going back to Amazon to see what other Four Star Theater programs are available.

Oh, how great! I will look for those.

I always wondered how a person would sew on a handcrank machine. I guide my fabric with both hands. I was watching 'Call the Midwife' and Chummy was using a handcrank. One hand to crank and one to guide fabric. Well duh! I probably would have crooked seams.LOL

When I use my Brother and use the on/off switch instead of foot pedal, I learned to keep one hand close to the button and guided the fabric with my left hand. It's really easier than you think. I am so right handed.

I am so right handed. I'm so glad I learned on a hand crank - I didn't realize it but I've always used my left hand to guide fabric and yes I sew straight. I am so right handed. OK It was a habit learned from day one. When I had the hand crank, I ran over a finger and the hand crank got replaced for a FW. I never saw a HC again until a couple years ago. You can bet I put a finger guard on it. I picked up on it right away and amazed myself that I could even flat fell a seam left handed.
