Are any of you nervous about buying older computerized Berninas? I found a 1230 I'm smitten with, but it isn't cheap, and I'm nervous about it "giving up" on me too soon. My local dealer, of course, encouraged these feelings of insecurity, saying I was better off buying a newish 210 than a used 1230. The 210 is nice, but it doesn't have as many features as the 1230. What do y'all think on this matter? :?: :) :?:

i am interested in this also, due to the decorative stitches that are not available on any other machine. But, my worry is the high cost of repairs on this machine.

I would be nervous to purchase a computerized machine with no warranty. You never know how a machine was cared for or if perhaps it was a lemon.

I had my 1090 for 15 years before i had to replace my board at the cost of 150. and then i sewed on it for another 10 before trading it in on a 1530 which i got last year and its old also and cost me 600. but i was able to trade my 1090 in on it and took off 200. so in the end it was 400.

I would check with a Bernina repair man if boards are available for it...and how much a repair would be if the board goes out...
also asking what are the likely repairs on this machine,

Thought I'd throw in my 2 cents worth. Mine went nuts when I tried to make it brighter. Took it in only to find out my Motherboard was going, he set the brightness and told me not to move it and maybe it would last. So I don't move it and have had no trouble since...knock on wood. My machine is a Pfaff.

I have a Bernina 1080 and I just had to have the mother-board replaced, along with replacing some parts in the foot pedal. I LOVE MY BERNIE. I have had her for 15-20 years and I don't think the price to get her fixed is to bad. I really work her hard.

Mine was bought in 1990. A guild member was upgrading and I bought it from her in 2004 for $400. That was a really good price, I thought at the time. It is still working beautifully and I love it.

I would take the 1230 over the 210 anyday. The 210 is the light weight, half or three quarter, size and it is at the bottom of the 200 series. They quit making them last year.
