I saw this on craigs list, a hobby to many may be of interest to others on this board since it involves FABRIC! I'd just love to take a look - too bad it isn't quilting fabric, I know many of us would be all over this! - I have no involvment with the craigs list post other than it's so interesting!
Any way we could use this for quilting?

I've seen rugs 'knitted' or 'crocheted' from strips of fabric so why not with what looks like bias strips?

They look similar to the balls of fabric my Mom prepared for her rug weaving.

She would cut a short strip - twist it to tst for "bulk" - and after she determined an appropriate widtu, she either cut or tore her strips.
Then she sewed them together diagonally - no bulky joins for my Mom
She usually folded the raw edges in as she rolled the long strips into balls - she did not like the ragged look
When she was ready to weave it, she would wind it on a shuttle.

She much preferred weaving with materials she prepared herself!

When I was a child my mother would take these balls to the Goodwill where they would weave them into rugs. My kindergarden rug was one such rug.
…times gone by…

My Grandma made Balls like these out of old clothes and them made rugs with a set of 3 needles made from rat-tail comb handles. They were beautiful. Always regretted that I wasn't smart enough to have her teach me how she done them.

These probably aren't meant to be unwound. This is a new trend... bowls or baskets of fabric strip balls. They are for decoration only.
