Our town has been cutting down all the trees in the forest...our land borders the forest...the animals have all been visiting...Bears, Deers, Fishcats and many more...in 15 years and in fact my entire life I have never seen a wild bear...until now, way close in my back yard. YIKES!

Wow! He says Have a nice weekend! Or else!

bearisgray 07-13-2013 02:15 AM

If YOUR homes were being destroyed, where would you go?

carolaug 07-13-2013 02:34 AM

I really wish they would stop cutting down the trees, its not just some trees its a ton of trees...they say its forest management and they need to be thinned...I think someone just wants money in their pockets.

ube quilting 07-13-2013 02:51 AM

Wow! I have been surprised twice by visiting bears in twelve years. Exciting and scary at the same time. enjoy the view!
peace

chips88 07-13-2013 03:01 AM

yeah enjoy the view from inside. i heard if they want into your house they will come in. if hungry enough, looks like he is closer then i would feel compfy with.

chips88 07-13-2013 03:04 AM

seems like everyone is getting the tree cutting frency here to. thats why animals are moving. hungry.

QuiltnNan 07-13-2013 04:35 AM

that is happening near our cities, too. and the wolves are also visiting.

carolaug 07-13-2013 05:10 AM

we had coyotes for several years but so far none this year...fingers crossed.

Exactly!! The forest was their home first.

Rose Marie 07-13-2013 06:34 AM

Thats horrible.
You know that only one percent of the redwood forest is left.
So many animals are going extinct because of man.

nativetexan 07-13-2013 06:51 AM

Why are they cutting down their habitat? I would object strongly.

Dolphyngyrl 07-13-2013 06:57 AM

I would get a group together and get a petition signed. If the members of the city object to cutting down of trees then something should be done, whoever heard of an overgrown forest that you had to thin. It takes hundreds of years for trees to get that size. Thats a load of bull their spewing IMHO

Tartan 07-13-2013 07:51 AM

You would think with all the information out there about climate change that people would realize it isn't smart to cut own trees. Poor wildlife! It reminds of the line from a old Joni Mitchell song...They paved paradise to put up a parking lot...

irishrose 07-13-2013 08:40 AM

They come in for easy food like birdfeeders even if the forest hasn't been cut. Ours are mostly nocturnal, but have been seen at 7:00 am and noon. I met one that size at 7:15 pm while walking my dogs. I ended up with a separated shoulder from restraining my recent rescue. The bear came towards us for a while, then turned and headed back to the woods. This was the middle street in our area - not back by the woods. My concern is the little ones (humans) out playing after dinner.

Thinning forest is reasonable so that new growth can occur, but clear cutting to sell the wood to the co gen plant isn't, though that's on private land, not national forests.

Emma S 07-13-2013 08:47 AM

Wow! Too big and too close.

carolaug 07-13-2013 10:23 AM

the forest behind us is town owned. the town is thinning it out...but they are doing alot of it as well as private owners in the area now...one mountain side that is private owned is almost empty...very bare. There are wood trucks full every day...its not only here but though out our town.

Luv Quilts and Cats 07-13-2013 11:28 AM

Perhaps he is looking for a "Bear Paw" quilt from you to hibernate with this winter! ;)

Sandra in Minnesota 07-13-2013 04:14 PM

Whistle or make a lot of noise when you go outside. They will usually run away.

carolaug 07-13-2013 04:24 PM

I was going to print out the picture and frame it...and thinking I need to make a log cabin with a bear applique or a bear claw quit : )

mimiknoxtaylor 07-13-2013 04:27 PM

That's one big bear!

Jingle 07-13-2013 06:31 PM

Very nice bear. Not keeping the dead trees and brush down is what causes wild fires that burn thousands of acres and people's homes. Not sure all the trees need to be cut down but, they do need to be thinned out.

just joan 07-14-2013 03:57 AM

We have bears here also, have bobcat, wolves, trukeys, racoon, and lots of other wild life. I much prefere the wild animals to the city.

carolaug 07-14-2013 04:03 AM

Thing is...I don't live in the county...near the city. Its also a neighborhood and our contractor saw the bear running across the st. when he was driving around the neighborhood looking for our house. We live in the north east so not a lot of wild fires here. We do get lots and lots of rain..this year at least ; )

Wanabee Quiltin 07-14-2013 05:28 AM

Be very careful. I worked at a hospital in Idaho Falls and they brought in a young girl who was attacked taking a hike in Yellowstone. She had hundreds of stitches in her head but she survived. What a shame the city is taking down the forest, where are the animals going to go ?

DJinSC 07-14-2013 06:07 AM

He is too close for comfort! It is very sad that they are cutting down the forest.

Yooper32 07-14-2013 06:56 AM

When I lived in CO, I lived about three blocks from downtown and in the summer and fall, bear were nightly visitors in my yard. We could not leave bird seed, barbeques or garbage cans out. If we did and the bears came and you called Wildlife officer, you got a big fine, your fault. Still they came as they had discovered an easy life down in the city and they were reluctant to give that easy life up. One fall, a block from an elementary school, a she-bear decided to hibernate under a woman's porch so she would be near easy pickings when spring came. They did much damage in town.

tessagin 07-14-2013 04:38 PM

That's a whole lot closer than I would like. My washing machine would be going all the time, because of changing clothes so much.

JANICE E. 07-15-2013 05:24 AM

Wow! I feel bad for the wild animals here too in charlotte nc. Their putting in new roads and down come the trees. And these animals have no idea where to go.That bear is beautiful as well as scary.

mjhaess 07-15-2013 06:31 AM

He is a beautiful creature...it is a shame the way man is encroaching on the land. The poor animals have no where to go. It breaks my heart. We as humans have become heartless toward nature..

Wintersewer 07-15-2013 07:42 AM

Over grown forests MUST to be thinned for their own health. Trees fall because of storms and/or disease and they need to be removed. Young trees need space and light to grow. In NY our government gave in to the "No cutting at all tree huggers" on public land and they are now a mess. There IS a happy medium, and forests need to be MANAGED. People who don't know what they are talking about have created problems in our public forests.

And we complain about the rabbits and squirrels in our back yard and garden! And those birds trying to eat our blackberries. Guess we should be thankful!

What state do you live it? That severe cutting sounds dangerous to me, but then what do we know.....wonder wher all that wood is going...to Japan/China to be cut then "sold" back to us. Don't think we have many sawmills these days...only fast food restaurants!

Mariposa 07-15-2013 11:36 AM

Yikes! He looks to be a bit too close for comfort.....

IBQUILTIN 07-15-2013 04:37 PM

I live near Yosemite, and bears are part of our lives. We haven't seen many this year for some reason. They are generally more afraid of you than you are of them, but be cautious when you come around a corner. They are startled easily

I agree also.. I love wildlife and believe they should have their habitat

earthwalker 07-16-2013 12:06 AM

What a beautiful bear....I won't go on a rant about trees or "forest management" but - no trees, no habitat, no air, no rain.....no nothing...
