Another thread about cherries reminded me that this year has been the best in a long time for peaches. Most of the past few years they've been dry and mealy. But this year they're juicy and sweet. What kind of weather would cause that? Was it all the icy cold temps the mid-Atlantic states had last winter?

Any peach farmers in the crowd who would know?

Quoting from my late nurseryman DH..."Some stone fruits and lots of others need a certain amount of "cold time hours" to fully go into hibernation so they will fully develop fruit, leaves and new top growth." Whatever the heck that meant.
Stone fruits are the ones with hard pits surrounded by some tasty food.

I spent the week in Atlanta and the Georgia peaches were just wonderful. Sweet and juicy. I kept going back for more.

I believe I heard a headline here just a few weeks ago that the peach crop in Oregon was about 90% ruined. I see high produce prices this year. Danged rain sometimes.
One good thing, it does cut down on the wildfires.
