Phishing warning
 
I received a "phishing" email this morning. It said it was from Apple. It said someone had tried to use my AppleID.
Even adds a link to Apple.com. As a precaution I reset my password and forwarded the email to Apple.

I had one also. I think it was on Pinterest that it came up on and I exited immediately.

I would bet the link did not go to the real website. If you hover your mouse over the link, you can see where it really goes.

Apple sent me an email back after I reported the incident. They asked for the entire email to be forwarded as an attachment. I appreciated such a fast response from them. Hopefully they can get it resolved or at least learn a little more about these criminals.

Yesterday I got a call, AGAIN, from someone reporting problems with my computer, supposedly from Microsoft, They wanted me to sign in, touch certain keys and they would "repair" the errors. When I didn't follow their instructions and questioned them, they told me I was "wasting their time" when i pointed out that they called me, they called me a b1tch and hung up. Got a good laugh, anyway.

My husband was taken in by a 'security" firm called "Rescue Me" and they accessed my computer and put security on that I did not want. Apple were great in cleaning it all out for me but my husband is out for quite a lot of money. I had previously denied two attempts at getting me to sign up for back-up and for dealing with adware. Apple security has always worked for me and they provide good support.

What really confuses these guys from the "tech" dept. Tell them your computer was stolen and if they are "talking" to your computer. Tell them to let you know where it is so the cops can go get it.

Leaves them speechless.

Yes, it also leaves them speechless when you tell them that you appreciate their call, " but I don't have a computer." I did that on my last tech call from "David from tech support." He didn't have anything else to say, soI hung up.

NEVER REPLY TO UNSOLICITED EMAILS. Go directly to the site - do not use their link - and see if they have sent out an inquiry. Any site you have an account with will have a message area or email log. Scamers are very creative and their emails look good. When in doubt - don't. And, as a reminder, NEVER give out personal info on the phone. Legitimate folks will not ask for it on the phone, they will send you something you can verify. If it sounds real, ask for their contact number and tell them you will call them back in a few minutes. This gives you time to verify and a real company will understand your caution.

Noon news here had an very interesting info segment talking about privacy and scamming. Gave a web site for info and education: privacyprofessor.org. I have not looked at it myself.

No new emails from my scammer...lol

But I did get a junk mail from Tia Mowry about viagra....lol And I had just watched her on the Cooking Channel.
I wonder if she knows they use her name. Jennifer Anistin sent my brother one about the blue pill........haha

I had one from PayPal this morning, telling me that there was a problem with my account due to invalid personal identity info. It even had the right logo and gave a very legitimate looking case number. And of course had a 'link' to sign into my PayPal account to rectify the problem. My junk mail scanner did not catch it.

I exited my email and signed into my PayPal on a new screen just to check and of course there were not problems to rectify. But they sure are starting to look and sound professional. Too bad they keep forgetting that genuine notifications from PayPal never include a link to sign in to your account!

I received that one also in my morning email. I forwarded it to Paypal for investigation.

Carol446, that is very clever. The same people call my house. Another good strategy is to tell them you'll have to put your boss on the phone. Then just put the phone down and walk away.

I think I talked to the same guy because I got called the same name! Who are you going to complain to when it's a scam to begin with?
