Actually, you-all makes some sense. You is singular and you-all is plural.

No, bear, "Y'all" is singular and "All Y'all" is plural. You-all is something that people who moved from North to South use in place of Y'all. Or maybe it came from somewhere else, but not from the South.

And here in the South, "Coke" is generic. "Does anyone want a coke? What kind?" I do still use "Pop" when I go back to Ohio, though.

I absolutely cannot stand when someone says "Awnry" for Ornery. For some reason that drives me nuts.

It took me a while to realize that "pop" and "soda" were the same thing.

Well...mine is "throwed"...I just go crazy when I hear this.." that bull throwed him like a yard dart!"

People around here say that all the time...UGGHHHH!

And..."done gone"...as in...."he done gone and done it"....

I have been sitting here and laughing like crazy at some of these...and how many I still use LMBO
It is funny though, I may use them while talking, but never think of using them while typing/writing

Well, I am going to confess and say that I do use a certain phrase. Almost always in regards to a patient:

"She looks like she was rode hard and put up wet"

What drives me nuts is someone using the word issues for the word problem. Is the word problem outlawed.

sandpat 11-30-2009 04:21 PM

I agree....with your "issue" with the word "issue"...

Have ya'll read the uproar about our President using the word "unprecedented"? It has been all over the internet just this week...funny...

I spent much time in VA as a kid. My family down there all do that. My NE husband says pop.

OMG! My DH has alway's pronounced it this way. Used to drive me crazy. Now, I just chuckle.

I LOVE regionalisms, eh. I don't mind all the little things people say, but I do cringe when the verb doesn't agree with the subject, especially when the person is answering the phone. And I know some people are trying really hard to get it correct, and goof it up everytime! Double negatives confuse me, but I can usually figure out what the person means. Sometimes not. Or "not so much" which is the new one.
I like listening to people and I try to determine where they have lived because they use words in unusual ways.
