As I have shared on another thread, I work with the Michigan Animal Rescue League as a volunteer and foster mom. I thought I would share some of the pictures of my 'babies'. All have been adopted into their forever homes. I had 25 kittens and 10 cats that I fostered between the beginning of May and the middle of December last year. I've already had 4 older ones this year and am waiting for the kitten season to begin. I'm making little quilts to put in the cages so when they are adopted, they can take something home with their smell on it to ease the transition. Last year, MARL adopted over 250 cats/kittens from our Luv-A-Pet center. My goal is to have a quilt/blankie for each one this year. I think I've lost my mind but I'll give it a good try. Many thanks to all who have helped me out with fabric, scraps, batting, good wishes and prayers. I could not do it by myself. I hope you enjoy the pictures.
Until they all have homes,

Soooo darling!! I want a kitty so much. Where are you located?

sunkistmi 03-10-2010 04:34 PM

I'm in Michigan. There are lots of unwanted kitties in Oregon I'm sure.

We would love to have another kitty, but Kola has us on a one cat limit. And she says she is the limit..lol

yourstrulyquilts 03-10-2010 04:36 PM

I'm sure. After I asked that silly question I saw where you were from. I really want a kitty. I need to find a rescue shelter close by.

Marjpf 03-10-2010 04:45 PM

Wow - I have to hand it to you - I could never let go of a single one! They are all too cute. I really admire people who can do what you do.

thequilterslink 03-10-2010 04:48 PM

oh they are all so darling, love cats, we have way too many ourselves and have had them all fixed. I applaud you loudly for what you are doing. Please Pm me so i can see what i can do to help you.

sunkistmi 03-10-2010 04:53 PM

It has been awhile since I have looked at the pictures and I'm sitting here with tears running down my face. Good tears because I know they all have good home but I miss them. They will all be my babies forever. There are so many more but will stop now, I've got to get going on all those little quilts. Thank you for letting me share them with everyone. If one person thinks about adopting from a shelter because of them, I will be thrilled. There are abandoned kitties in every part of this country looking for their forever homes and it has goten much worse with this economy. Take care and thanks again.
Until they all have homes,
Wendy B

Ohh, that Sandi has my heart!

Why did you call Camille your foster failure? She looks so sweet.

yourstrulyquilts 03-10-2010 05:03 PM

I would like to help you too, How big do you make the quilts?

Chele 03-10-2010 05:08 PM

I'm not a huge cat fan, but I'm touched! What cuties. The faces! Awww... Thanks for fostering and finding them good homes. Every domesticated animal should have a loving family that spoils them. I've always believed these animals give back even more than they receive.

These are a couple of pictures of the little quilts that go in the cages and then go home with the kitty when they are adopted. Camille decided to model with it, I think she wants one too. The last is a picture of the little quilt I made for the young girl who adopted Sandi.

sunkistmi 03-10-2010 05:18 PM

Camille is a foster failure because I adopted her. She never got into the system because she never left my house once she got here. She's not really a failure, but a very sweet, sweet kitty. It's just that someone else missed out on her because I kept her. Thus she was a 'foster failure'. If I hadn't already kept Camille, Sandi would definately be here now. DH just could not come to grips with 4 cats although it would have been fine with me. What's one more? DS said that if anything every happened to DH (heaven forbid) that I would be a cat lady. I told him it was one of the nicest compliments I had ever gotten.
The little quilts are 13"x19" because they fit well into the cages at that size w/o ending up in the water or food dishes. We have blankies that are always in the cages for them but did not have enough to give to them when they went to their new homes. I had read that it helps relieve some of their stress in the new situation if they have something with their smell on it. Thanks for asking.

I remember my little foundling at that size- you are doing such good forr the furry ones!

littlehud 03-10-2010 06:24 PM

I just love cats and your pictures are so cute. Nearly all my cats and dogs have come from shelters and they are all wonderful.

canmitch1971 03-10-2010 07:07 PM

I wish I could get good homes for all the little orphan kitties and puppies.

I see that you live in Livonia. I'm in Clinton Township. I would like to make a small quilt or two(he-he) for your cause.

PM me with some info, if you don't mind.

They are so precious, and so are you for doing what you are doing. Thank you for sharing. Penny

Wonderful pics of your little furbabies! And wonderful you, for all you do for them. Thank you!

mytwopals 03-11-2010 10:40 AM

I love what you're doing for all the cats.

nativetexan 03-11-2010 01:18 PM

oh the pic with all the kittens in your lap reminds me of the second litter the mamma cat had just after we took her into our house. we had 9 cats for awhile. the babies would pay on me and then sleep curled up in my lap until i finally crawled out from under them. so cute.

shaverg 03-12-2010 11:31 AM

OMG, they are so sweet. But makes me so sad. I wish I could adopt a kitty, but way to alergic. Thanks for all you do for those little sweet spirits.

zyxquilts 03-12-2010 12:36 PM

What a wonderful thing you are doing! I'm almost ready for another cat...almost. zzyzx came from the local shelter, and the next one will be a rescue too.
