Five years ago DH wanted piranhas for Father's day and of course, I got him 5, two inches long from somewhere in NJ very cheap. We (OK, me) have cared for this animals for quite some time and they have grown a lot. Last summer one of the piranhas died. It was the largest one, 10 inches long. I took it to a taxidermist. It feels like it was such a long time ago with everything that has happened since. I even paid for it then (good thing, because now I couldn't). I had totaly forgotten about it and the guy called me yesterday to tell me the fish is ready. Jorge's birthday is today, so I saw there the perfect opportunity to give it to him as a birthday present, since it was paid for and everything. He as so amazed! The taxidermist did a great job. He didn't know anything and was almost in tears to see it. He loves his fish so much and now he has it forever. Here is a pic of it.

How big did it get before he passed away? And what do you feed them?

It was 10 inches. They eat anything that goes into the tank, like feeder fish, or frozen fish as long as I put them into the water one at a time and they slowly sink. They assume while they sink they are alive and eat them quick. They are kind of interesting to watch.

Wow, very interesting. My sister had an Oscar, he kept taking chucks out of his tank mates.

That is one big pet fish. He looks happy. ( your husband, not the fish. )

LOL!! A great present for him apparently!! I have a 100 gal fish tank and my DH always teases me that he's going to cook some of my Bala Sharks some day. They are only about 8" or so. I don't think that I will ever have any of them stuffed, ever.

I'm not sure I would want one in my fish tank, only because I'd end up with cats with no feet. lol

WOW....awesome job on the fish. And LOL at the haircut comment....if anyone saw my DH with his hair down... :shock: Many have tried to go after him with a scissors but I tell them that they better not since I asked him to grow it out in the first place. LOL

Years ago some friends of ours had Piranha and our sons loved to watch them being fed. They fed them raw hamburger and frozen shrimp. :D And they were fun to watch, the kids loved to see the water in the tank "boil" LOL
