What are these? They are both textured, sort of loosely woven - you can see through them a bit. They have slightly different colored threads going in both directions. I hope my pics captured this. The purple one is 60" wide and has a nice drape. The yellow one is 44" wide and is much stiffer. But they both look the same. Neither has any stretch at all.

The first pic is the texture, the 2nd pic is the selvedge and the 3rd shows how you can see the purple through the yellow. Thanks!!

Silk dupioni? It has a slub appearance and a lovely drape.

Maybe a linen blend? I use a linen / rayon / poly blend for my habits as it looks like linen but doesn't wrinkle as badly. Have you done a burn test? That will tell you if the fibers are natural and the burning odor might be distinctive enough to tell you what the fiber is (if natural). http://www.fabricmartfabrics.com/Burn-Test-Chart.html

Thanks. I'll do the burn test.

Edited - Did the burn test. I think both are either all or somewhat synthetic. There was no ash to speak of. The burned part became a hard black thing. Beyond that, I can't say. I wan't able to speak to the "smell" portion of the test.

I've worked in fabric stores for YEARS & they both appear to be linen-looks.....a blend made to look like linen. Most are part polyester. Some are poly rayon. Some are poly cotton. Some are all poly.

They have a different feel because of what the blend is made of.

It looks like raw silk or a linen. I used to buy a lot of raw silk when we lived in the Far East and it looked like that.

A hard black thing indicates a poly fabric.

I agree, looks like linen.

Thanks for the replies. I did a burn test and got a black blob at the end. So I think it has some quantity of synthetic fiber in it. I'm sorry I didn't think to do the test before I posted. I decided it makes real nice lining fabric for tote bags so I've already lined 2 bags with it.
