pleather stench??!!!help!
 

bought some pleather to recover some bar stools. smell is horrible!! we had to put it outside. head achs and nausea. It's been outside in a shed for three days and still stinks.
any Idea's on how to remove the smell? can't use it untill gone.

You may have to get rid of it. Plastics are not very porous so getting a smell out may be very difficult. a chemical could be the culprit.

I would be concerned about the chemical, even after the smell is gone. What about buying an old leather coat from a thrift shop instead and seeing if you could cut it up? I've seen leather coats and jackets for $10-20 in thrift shops.

will have to do something. the vinegar and mild soap didn't work either. will try the goodwill. Thankyou!! There is a small kitchen gardener fairly close. I think I will give it to him for his tractor seat. If it's outside maybe it won't bother him. I'm afraid to bring it in. THANK YOU ALL! one more lesson learned the hard way.

In all the years being an Upholsterer I never came across that problem. I do like Michelle's idea, cut up some of leather jackets, maybe some pleather coats from the thrift store. Just sniff them first...LOL

Is there anyway to get your money back or at least contact the manufacturer to find out a solution?

Some of the plastics really have a stench that only time and air will cure. I had the same issue with a fresh from the factory right out of the box cutting mat. Left it in the garage for weeks before I could use it. The whole way home from the store .. I thought I had hit a skunk.

I just got rid of a really nice Tupperware container I got at the thrift store. It smelled sour inside. I tried everything over a few months: baking soda, vinegar, bleach, charcoal, newspapers, outside in the sunshine for literally weeks. Dishwasher several times. I finally donated it back. maybe someone can use it for non food items. I think some smells are just impossible to remove.

take it back to the shop you bought it from. Toxic waste
