Does anyone know how to get rid of pocket gophers? My husbands yard is being over run by the darn things and he is really getting mad. He reminds me of Bill Murray in Caddy Shack, he's on his hands and knees digging in the holes setting traps, filling the holes with water and they just keep digging away. It's really funny to watch him and I laugh when he is out there trying to get rid of them.

OMG I remember that movie. It was so funny. Just picturing this in my minds brought on fits of hysterical laughter. I had moles in a lawn one time and I flooded them but i also added a few drops of dish liquid soap in the hole first. The suds finally drove them elsewhere. Thank you so much for the good healthy laugh. I feel better.

You need to put the traps on both sides and also wear plastic gloves so no human smell is put on the traps. They are smart little buggers.

That reminds me of the time I drove into my Dad's yard, and he was sitting in a lawn chair dressed in his bermuda shorts, an old white t-shirt and a baseball cap, sandals with black socks and holding a 22 and a shovel. He was Mole hunting.

Still cracks me up.

Years ago we lived out in the country and finally got a large Yellow Lab, he took care of the problem really fast.

OMG!! Are you sure you didn't pull into my father's driveway? Coulda been him...but mine has a .410, not a .22. Thanks for the laugh. Priceless!!

As for getting rid of moles...get rid of their food source, and they will move on. Moles eat grubs. An application of milky white spore will get rid of the beetles/grubs and the moles will move on to greener pastures. Gophers are tough...they are vegetarian and love plant roots. Some people claim success with household cleaners...just pour strong-smelling stuff into their holes (ammonia, Lysol, Pine-Sol, etc.) on a regular basis. Otherwise, you'll need to be brutal. Not pleasant, but only as a last resort.

Get a terrier, Dachshund or Scottish Deerhound! My friend has Doxies and Deerhounds and the little underground vermin do not venture on her property.

Hmm, come to think of it, she doesn't have tree vermin either!
