Popcorn Chenille Bedspread??
 

Does anyone know how to make a popcorn chenille bedspread? I know this is not quilting, but I was hoping someone on this board could point me in the right direction. I have Googled this to death and have not found anything. Is it even possible to make this type of fabric/bedspread myself?

I believe these were all commercially manufactured. Looks like there are some beautiful vintage versions on eBay for reasonable prices.

The only way I can think of that would even come close would be to either knit or crochet chenille yarn and include a popcorn stitch at regular intervals. It wouldn't be the same as a woven bedspread, more like an afghan, and probably too stretchy for a bed cover...nice though.

I was hoping to find instructions on how to make one because I have a king sized bed that I would like to use it on, and vintage spreads are just not that big. :) Prism, I have a feeling you are right about them being commercially manufactured since I have not come across any tutorials on how to make them.

You might be able to find something similar new in a matelasse bedspread with candlewicking. Here's a link to one:

How about getting a full size one and a twin. Split the twin in half lengthwise. Attach at the mattress edge to the full size chenille bedspread. I think this is the only way you will find a kingsize.

Great idea, Susie! I know of several nice popcorn/chenille bedspreads at a local antique market that might work, plus I love the look of those tailored bedspreads from the '60s.

Not sure if you are asking about making the chenille or the bedspread. If it's the bedspread, do you want a backing on it??? If so add the backing like you would a quilt. You would need to do some sewing to keep the layers together. Then bind it. If you're asking about making chenille I'm not sure how you would get the pop corn effect. Sounds like a lot of work.

The Lakeside catalog online has popcorn chenille curtain panels for $7.99 each. Perhaps you could buy enough to sew together and make a spread. When mine arrived, i actually thought about cutting them up for a quilt, but hung them in the window instead!
