I find myself slouching all the time and its getting painful. I would ask hubs to tie me to the chair but I'd be afraid he would leave me there....on purpose! How do you make yourself sit up straight when you have to sit alot?

My neck and shoulders remind me.

I sit up straight after I'm sore. So I guess I'm not much help. Oh- what about tilting your sewing machine and making sure your work area is the right level.
I always admire my dd- she has perfect posture, courtesy of the titanium rods aligning her spine after major scoliosis surgery. She will always stand nice and tall, although her hips and shoulders are not straight across, you'd never know it. |
If you're sliding (not slouching), it's the chair.
You can do exercises to strengthen your abdominal and lower back muscles or your "core" muscles or whatever, and that will give you a naturally straighter posture. Or just suck in the gut while sitting... |
My posture is horrible. I would love to hear some suggestions on how to make it better.
|
I'm a quilter...We sit up straight???
|
I use a lumbar support cushion. My sewing chair is just a regular wood dining chair.
|
My best friends Mother used to push her knuckles into the small of my back and tell me to stand up straight. After years of this, it finally paid off. I rarely slouch!
|
I confess I hunch over when I am sewing and tighten my shoulder, back and neck muscles. I find I need to get up and stretch and walk around every half hour or so, otherwise DH has to pry me out of the chair 'cos I can't move!

My back and shoulds hurt when I slouch.
