Praise to my hubby

I just need to let you know, first I failed ruler. I was on a shop hop and bought my first patches to make a quilt. Well, started to cut out the pieces, messed up. Hubby stepped in and cut the patches for me. He now cuts all my patches and does a great job. Now he has even taken up doing some sewing. Like the pants that I had put in a bag and "would get to them later" to hem them. Well, he sewed them up himself. I think eventually I'll get him to sew some blocks together. I know there are alot of hubbies out there like mine. Aren't they great.

Monroe 05-08-2012 07:43 PM

Careful- soon he'll be doing the whole top. Or maybe that's the plan?

Suze9395 05-08-2012 07:52 PM

How great is that! Enjoy your treasure!

sylviak 05-08-2012 07:59 PM

My hubby has NO artistic or craft talents! But he admires my quilts and has helped to build my quilting shed. Can't help the talent thing, but he's sure a sweetheart!

Pickles 05-08-2012 08:23 PM

That is Great and maybe someday he'll be making his very own, I keep trying to talk my Hubby into it , but so for
he hasn't took me up on it .

burchquilts 05-08-2012 10:27 PM

Mine doesn't sew but he does all the other stuff so I can sew. I like that deal! LOL!

jlm5419 05-09-2012 01:25 AM

My DH doesn't sew at all, and laughs at my obsession with sewing and vintage machines, but he indulges, so he's a keeper anyway.

carolv 05-09-2012 03:14 AM

Mine's a keeper too! No sewing but, he does take care of stuff so I can sew. Gotta love a man like that.

happyquiltmom 05-09-2012 03:27 AM

My hubby doesn't participate in my hobby, but he does contribute to it! He surprised me with a vintage Bernina Record 830 for valentines' day a few years ago, and quite often will bid on things he knows I'm watching on eBay. He spoils me!

homecaregiver 05-09-2012 03:31 AM

Isn't it nice to have your mate interested and doing/helping in your hobbies. Sounds like he is a keeper.

I also have a great hubby. He participates by helping my lay out my quilt. When I get the blocks made and it's time for the layout he has a really good eye for that. He also praises me for every project made. He has thanked me numerous times for making him a quilt. He touches it, pats it and says "my woman made this for me". My hubby is definitely a keeper. We've been married 34 years and I hope for many, many more.

TexasSunshine 05-09-2012 04:22 AM

My DH is a lot of help also. He is great at making things for me like a design board, large ironing board and made me a great sewing room. He helps with design and math when I have trouble with it. He is good with machines and is better at running the LA machine than I am. We have been married 48 years so I'll keep him.

BellaBoo 05-09-2012 05:48 AM

That's nice! I know I wouldn't be praising my DH if he was in my sewing room all day. We are complete opposites but the same in being opposite. LOL.

Lori S 05-09-2012 06:24 AM

Count yourself as one of the lucky ones!

SuzyQ 05-09-2012 06:50 AM

I must say I don't want my DH anywhere near my quilting! LOL. He's a perfectionist and if he tried he'd spot a less than perfect seam allowance a mile away ... and I got a lot of them ... and that's okay with me!!!

Your hubby is a keeper. I'm dealing with a bad case of carpal tunnel and have thought of asking my hubby to cut out the next project. Rotary cutting kills me. He's a highly skilled carpenter who built the house we live in. I'm thinking he's more than qualified to cut out a project. In fact, it would probably better and more accurate than I can do.

mighty 05-09-2012 07:28 AM

That is so cool!!!

Neesie 05-09-2012 08:57 AM

Before you know it, he'll be having his own fabric stash! :)

You are blessed!

Maybe we should have some kind of Helpful DH contest with some awards! Mine does all my cutting, collaborates on layouts, helps load client quilts on long arm and gives input on quilt design selection AND watches craigslist & papers for vintage machines.

kuntryquilter 05-10-2012 02:52 AM

I have taught my husband to sew a button on his shirt and to also iron them. I am happy with that. I don't think I would be able to teach him anything else. He is my Computer Geek & that makes him & me happy.

Steady Stiching 05-10-2012 03:51 AM

I've pointed out to my husband that his eye for precision and his enjoyment of "cool tools" he would enjoy cutting my fabric. I think I have to wait till he retires. Good for you....cutting is my least favoriite thing of quitlign.

anniesews 05-10-2012 04:44 AM

Mine is all thumbs for cutting but he can look at my design wall and help me figure out what I am doing wrong. That for me is very valuable.

Sounds familier...My hubby has a keen eye for colour combinations and comes with me to help pick out fabric.
He supports and encourages me when I'm trying new things in my quilting experience.

Jingle 05-10-2012 05:48 AM

Mine has no attention to details, keeping him away from my sewing room works for me. He is much better at keeping the TV company while I do quilty things.

An Arm Long 05-10-2012 05:50 AM

My hubby has a wonderful eye for color, texture and value in fabric. I love it when he comes with me to pick out fabric. We have alot of fun. He is not much into sewing but is excited to see the finished product especially when he helped pick the fabric.

KatFish 05-10-2012 06:11 AM

How wonderful of your DH. My DH says that my cutting table is too low for him to cut my fabric. He is 6'6" to my 5'. That's his story and he is sticking to it.

WMUTeach 05-10-2012 06:38 AM

Congratulations! What a find! Does he have a brother? Tee-Hee!

spokanequilter 05-10-2012 07:04 AM

I've been quilting for several years and I never thought my husband was terribly interested or appreciative of my hobby. That is, until out of the blue he bought me a brand spanking new Janome Horizon machine for Christmas. My sister said he asked her advice on which machine to get, but the idea was totally his. Then a couple of months ago, I ordered a Grace quilting frame and he had it assembled within a couple of hours after it was delivered. Actions speak louder than words! I guess I'll keep him around a bit longer - just in case I need any other "some assembly required" help.... :)

anita211 05-10-2012 07:58 AM

Thankfully, mine only sews on buttons for himself, even though I have offered to sew them on with the machine. However, he is good with color...

My hubby thinks if you sew in reverse that the stitches come out! True story girls! LOL...

charity-crafter 05-10-2012 08:02 AM

You are lucky. Give him a big hug and kiss for being such a great guy.

My dh doesn't think quilting is a good hobby, "it does nothing to improve your mind. All you do is sew pieces of fabric together." I told him "Ok, you can go back up stairs now and don't come back. this is my hobby and I don't need to improve my mind-go away." I had gotten into crumb blocks for awhile and I was making 100's of them. He didn't appreciate them at all.

Now, we agree to disagree and to keep his mouth shut. He did buy me a Viking DSE a few years ago out of the blue so I'll forgive his miss-spoken words.

llong0233 05-10-2012 08:39 AM

I think sewing is highly under-rated as an artistic expression, hobby and stress-relieving activity for everyone.

Woman 05-10-2012 09:05 AM

I have a keeper too, he praises me with each quilt that I finish. Had him for 44 yrs. will keep him that much longer or longer.

Dix 05-10-2012 09:10 AM

Must be these wonderful Oklahoma guys. My hubby is also great with my passion for quilting. Loves to go to the quilt shops with me and is always buying kits for me! He says he meets the nicest people in quilt shops. He bought me the Janome 6600 for Christmas when they first came out! I am keeping him too!

catmcclure 05-10-2012 10:14 AM

When I first started quilting I picked up every old quilt magazine I could find. One of them from the 80's had an article about an award winning quilter in Kansas or Nebraska (senior moment). He was in his 80's and had been quilting since the 30's. Turned out he was trained as an engineer (like John Flynn). His wife had made a quilt and he informed her that the points weren't perfectly matched. She replied (paraphrased) "If you think you can do better, go for it." He won the state fair blue ribbons several times for his quilts over the years.

Mine is like yours .He'll cook and do all the house chores while I sew or what ever .And I like that deal too !!
he'll even take me to shops and wait for me . I wouldn't trade him in .

Quilterfay 05-10-2012 04:59 PM

My husband several years ago decided that he wanted to quilt. So we got him a sewing machine and some of the tools. He made a wall hanging and a single bed quilt. It turned out great.

As some one said in this thread watch out when you do that. He is terrible for pointing out that someone seams don't match. That would be okay if he would keep his voice down. He is proud of my quilting. Not so happy that I have spent 4500 on 3 sewing machines and 1 frame in the last 4 years. But he never stops me from buying. So I guess I will keep him.
