Pricing for aprons
A friend has asked me to make some aprons for her. She will buy the fabric and pay me for my time and thread. I have no idea what to charge her. She wants half-aprons that tie around the waist but without the bib portion. They wouldn't be anything fancy just some holiday themed ones she says. I thought about $15-$20 each. Does that seem reasonable or too cheap? I don't want to overcharge her but neither do I want to short-change myself. TIA

I would say if you are happy with
I would say if you are happy with $15-$20 that would be fair. But don't cheat yourself. Some time a good thing can be overwhelming. Word gets around. |
If she's paying for the fabric and thread your price sounds good to me. What you make is probably a lot nicer than what you can buy already made.

These Etsy listings will give you an idea of what others charge. https://www.etsy.com/search?q=aprons...men&ref=auto-1
edited to add: Others have said, when making an item for someone: get the price in writing and get pre-payment for the first one. |

Every minute you spend on them whether it be washing the fabric, cutting the pieces, stitching or WHY! What is minimum wage in your state? What would you be paid per hour if you worked away from home? The fact is, we know that we seldom, if ever get paid the true value of our time and effort in doing for stitching. More often, we take a token payment and give a friends discount! But there is nothing wrong with sharing with your friend the true facts! |
Unless she wants to try selling apron for $40, I don’t think she will have much luck.

Will all of the aprons be the same pattern? How detailed is that pattern? Does it have pockets? My point is, half aprons are really easy to make, and you could do them all in one day if you use an assembly line making them. How good a friend is she? Maybe the two of you can come to a fair price together.

She doesns't want to sell them. They're for personal use.

I think 18$ is fair, I sell aprons and had to mark a few down recently.
