Print on demand books

Have any of you bought one of them?

I was looking for a Sally Collins book - the print on demand ones seemed more affordable than the "other' ones.

Are you referring to eBook or digital downloaded copies of a quilting book?? Yes, they are less expensive than the actually printed book and no shipping charges!

I am referring to something that is printed and mailed to the buyer. It appears to me to just be a colored copy of a book that is out of print,

I haven't bought any POD books. Have you considered buying the book used through Amazon? I've had a lot of success lately finding things I want at very good prices. Thus far I've not had any problems with the booksellers.

I saw a book a few months ago that was out of print, but the author was still selling it and the one thing that I noticed were the pictures didn't have the clarity that a regular book had. The author said that was because it was photocopied and the pixels were different. For the most part it is still had the same information, so I'll take it if it is out of print and there is no other way to get it.

I've bought print on demand books, not realizing that was what I bought. I was disappointed with the quality of the images, so now I'll only buy a print-on-demand copy if I can't possibly get a used book in respectable condition. I'd much rather have a used book in decent condition than a brand new p.o.d. copy.

I have also been disappointed in the quality of the p.o.d. books - now I will only purchase as the absolute last choice!

The ones I was looking at were in the $100+ category - even used! I did not want them all THAT much!

This is new to me.......are these provided by the original authors or just anyone? Can someone give an example of $$$ saved......thanks. I have bought many a "used" book from Amazon, and pleased with all, now I'll have to be careful and make sure I don't get photocopied .........are they somehow bound or just a bunch of papers...both sides printed?

JustAbitCrazy 07-19-2016 04:57 PM

Geri, they are bound and look just like the original book, but the quality of the printing (and maybe even the paper---I forget) leaves alot to be desired.
They are printed as needed by the publishers, not "just anyone", which would be copyright infringement, of course.

Hmmm, is this a new thing by the publishers? Rather than reprint the publication they are copying as requested? What an interesting concept...how long has this been going on...like I said, this is the first I hear of this, but I think I would prefer this to digital....if given the choice...I guess that is dating me.
