I have a Canon ip3500 and have done all the cleaning, deep cleaning, re-aligning etc. that the printer maintenance suggests. I've put in new toners and still am not getting the proper print-outs for the black. Any other suggestions? I hate to part with this printer, it's my 3rd printer & really can't justify another one just yet.

what exactly is wrong with it?

carhop 11-20-2010 03:22 PM

When you go to PRINT, a page should pop up ---- go into PREFERENCES or ADVANCED (whichever yours has) -- Make sure it's not set on DRAFT!

Sorry for your printer woes - mine won't print anything from my netbook because its insisting that it hs out of Magenta and Yellow. I have put new ones in, but nothing doing. While it is 'missing' those colours, it won't even print black and white.

I can still use it as a photocopier, so at least it half works.

It's set at standard, not draft...thanks, and I have tried it on high as well, just went back & redid all the settings, just in case.
It prints some lines completely but then the next line it will have like a white line through the printing, making me think there must be some kind of blockage.....well I've used up quite abit of ink on trying to clear it out!
Lacelady, when I change my toners I have to go in & tell the printer that the colour has been replaced, maybe yours is like that too?

Is this a new cartridge? I had a new one do this, had to take it back and exchange it :(

Did you make sure to pull the little tape off the bottom of the printer cartridge? We carried the entire printer into the store because the cartridge wasn't working. The guy opened the printer pulled out the cartridge, took off the protective tape, popped it back in and away it went. So embarrassing. Both my sons are I.T tecs. I don't dare tell them about it. This is worth a try.

My printer was doing the same thing, white lines through the printing. But it was 18 years old!! Never could get it to work, finally gave up and went to my newer printer.

nativetexan 11-20-2010 07:04 PM

do you have to aline things again. mine makes me do that every time i put in new cartridges. it's an HPF4480

amandasgramma 11-20-2010 08:27 PM

Not only aligning the thing again, but looking to see if there's something on the "rollers"...not sure on these new printers if we can see that area.

BTW -- I had a technician come to my house because i couldn't get the color to print one time......yip, I left the tape over the cartridge!! ARRRRGH

good luck!

Tapes off, I now have a nice black ink circle on my finger, came right through the paper towel :-( And the 1st toner was doing the lines, and this is the 2nd, and it's no better. Yes, did all the roller cleaning and bottom plate cleaning that's all in the maintenance tab, thanks for the suggestions. One sheet it printed quite clearly on the greyscale but now that's not working either, bleah!

I once found a tiny piece of paper obscurely hiding which caused this problem. I know you have cleaned, but might want to try again very carefully (sigh). I work on computers all day long and I understand the frustration with printers.

thimblebug6000 11-23-2010 08:06 AM

Thanks again for the suggestions, I just vacuumed it out but no help..... oh well, it's amazing what I don't need if I can't print it!

thimblebug6000 12-14-2010 04:29 PM

It's on it's way to recycling heaven now..... the print head's dead! Got myself( well actually Santa brought it early) an HP Photosmart that has the print head right in the replacement toner so SHOULD be the answer.....I sure hope so!
