purse hardware - reasonable shipping?

Does anyone have a source for purse hardware that has a reasonable shipping fee? I can't find what I need locally and don't want to spend $8-12 to ship $4 worth of items. I have checked ebay and etsy, but either didn't find what I wanted or the shipping high also.

I've gotten some good deals on amazon. Depends on what you're looking for.

Hancocks Fabric usually has a decent selection of purse hardware at this time of the year.

Yes, tried those also. Hancock's didn't have what I needed and the seller thru Amazon was the same one with the high shipping I saw earlier.

How about Hobby Lobby--have you ck'd there? Do you have a store nearby, or could you look on line?

Hancock's Fabric & Jo-Ann's

Homesew.com and Newarkdressmakersupply.com have low shipping. Also try Jhittle online.

It gets so frustrating to have to pay so much for shipping when the product is so inexpensive! Hope you find what you are looking for.

Have you tried the thrift stores? or even estate sales!

katier825 08-15-2014 09:16 AM

I did try Hancock's, Joann's, Michaels. None had what I need. I am looking for 3/4" slider buckles (no prongs) and swivel hooks. I've seen the swivel hooks, but trying to find all in one place. I may have to resort to thrift stores to see if anything in stock has what i want and can recycle.

thanks for the links, will also try homesew, newark and jhittle.

Do you have a Tandy Leather nearby? They carry a good line of purse hardware. Haven't checked on-line though.

I finally found something I think I can work with. I had to get 1" instead of 3/4" but hoping I can adjust the pattern w/o too much difficulty (that part was pretty confusing). Also got a different style in 3/4" as a backup. Rockywoods was the name of the shop. I've never bought from them...hoping they are reputable. :)

you can get D rings and O rings and snaps in a gold color at the hardware...

Sometimes if you call the site and discuss shipping with them they will (adjust) fix the shipping rate for you. I was ordering machine needles once and the stated shipping on the site was three times the cost of the needles, I called them and they sent my needles in a first class envelope for 89¢. Sometimes it is worth a phone call.

That's a great site for hardware if I ever decide to buy in bulk. I don't make a lot of bags, so it's better for me to buy just what I need for now. Thanks for the link, I've bookmarked it.

Just got a Nancy's Notions catalog today with free shipping and I know she has purse hardware, not sure if it is what you want but the free shipping is until 9-5-2014. Did not see a min. amount on the cover.

Apparently making bags is very trendy and worthwhile. I saw a post where someone paid a very small amount to participate in a craft fair, and ended up selling almost four hundred dollars worth of handmade clutches. She was very happy so it was apparently a profit situation.

Oh and craft fair season is coming soon.
