Here are some pics of our Norwegian Forest Cats doing what they do best... cause trouble!

They are a special breed native to Norway designed (by a thoughtful devine designer we think) to be able to survive in the north. They have:
a thick long neck ring of fur in winter,
several kinds of fur for protection - thick under coat, shorter next level and longer guard hairs outside.
The white ones we have are rather rare and hard to come by because of the dangers of their having genetic hearing problems (one of ours is a tad deaf)
come down from high places head first in a kind of walk (wierd to see)

Their names are Ibsen (neck hair looks like Henrik Ibsens beard and sideburns) [/b] and Ingrid

Ingrid should be called "Greta Garbo" she likes to be alone unless she can irritate Ingrid.

Grams, your babies are absolutely gorgeous! Show us more!

I need to post some pix of mine. My Tuffy is a 3-legged mutt-kitty, but his fur is like your Norwegians. And he is HUGE!

Those are Beautiful cats!!!! I couldn't let mine look at my monitor though, don't want them to learn any new tricks for when I get (if ever) a dishwasher

MollieSue 06-01-2009 04:42 AM

They're beautiful!!!! So funny, cats never leave any stone unturned! They look busy investigating! lol!!!!!

tlrnhi 06-01-2009 04:44 AM

How beautiful!!!
Are they big or just fluffy??

I would LOVE to have an all white cat again someday. Ok, I never really had an all white one. The one I was SUPPOSED to have, became Siamese. No one told me Siamese are born all white. lol

Mine used to try to get into the dishwasher. I don't have one here...oh yes I do...it's ME! lol

sewjoyce 06-01-2009 07:27 AM

Oh, they are simply gorgeous! And what fun to have 2 white ones!! Do they shed a lot or is that a silly question??

Beautiful kitties---the first I've heard of that breed.

And, look at that, they're going to be helpers in the kitchen, too!

Oh my, they are beautiful. What great furry babies.

carrieg 06-01-2009 12:28 PM

Beautiful kitties! What color are their eyes? They look yellow.

GladGrams 06-01-2009 12:32 PM

Maine Coon is a branch of the Norwegian Forest Cat, known here as Norsk Skog Kat.

Don't recommend fluffing yours up in the dishwasher. I nearly washed mine though in the washer! We only have front loaders here and we call it Pussy TV because they like to watch the clothes twirl, who would have thought Ibsen would actually get inside?

These ladies are talkers too. They hold conversations with us and fully expect an answer! Our neighbor, who they LOVE, took weeks before he would acknowledge that they actually were talking TO him and answered when he spoke back to them. Now they have regular chats. But we can't let anyone else know the big guy talks to little pussycats. ROFLOL

Ducky 06-01-2009 12:41 PM

Lovely little companions/helpers/supervisors/conversationalists! You have cats with many roles. My orange tabby is a talker, too. He makes full eye contact and expects an answer. And everytime one of us sneezes, he says something (we guess that he's either blessing us or telling us to stop it). With all the layers of fur, I imagine you have to brush them almost everyday, don't you? They are very beautiful cats!

SaraSewing 06-01-2009 12:51 PM

They are beauties. Reminds me of my all white fuzzy cat I had in the 70's. His name was Spook. Ya know, like a ghost. I love that your furries are watching you sew - that's a sign of a good kitty.

GladGrams 06-01-2009 02:39 PM

I believe you about the cat waiting to go get the cows. There is a cat in Norway that instincitively knows when the coastal boat will dock and bring the mail and other goods (and tourists). He runs to the dock and waits patiently for the boat and receives his goodies from the crew. Just amazing! They did a stint on a TV show about him.

bearpaw 06-01-2009 03:42 PM

Beautiful Kitties!!

canmitch1971 06-01-2009 07:15 PM
