I worked out the basic shapes using scraps of paper, then made a rough pattern on tissue paper. I transferred the paper pattern to muslin and used the muslin to make a sample, which turned into my final pattern.
* tip from a quilting class - go to a medical supply store and buy a roll of exam table paper. Great for making your own patterns, or making copies of one you want to use multiple times and don't want to buy multiple times.

My tablet is 10 inches, and I wanted a square pillow, so I used a 22 inch square to start for the base and outer border. **The inner pyramid triangles still need to be added.
  2. Mark 3 and 6 inch lines on each side of the 22 inch square. Fold on the 3 inch line. Mark a diagonal line across the intersection of the 3 inch line to the 6 inch lines. This will be the sewing line. Make a second line 1/4 - 1/2 inch away, depending on what seam allowance you want. This will be the cutting line .

Pyramid Tablet Pillow as word doc

1 Attachment(s)
So sorry about the other post. It was my first tutorial, and of course, all my pictures were way way too large. Redid all the pics, then redid the post, and then the text was too long.. 17000 characters needed reduced to 10000. Oh my, but I couldn't seem to add an attachment to the second part..so here it is.
The suede pillow doesn't sit quite right on the table, I think I stuffed it wrong, but it works fine on my lap or in bed. :)

SueDor 02-04-2013 02:51 AM

Nicely done!!!!

mermaid 02-04-2013 04:51 AM

You did a terrific job--looks wonderful. Are you not the talented one! My iPad has a cover that folds to make it's own stand, but I tried this a couple of times for reading books in bed--neither pattern attempt worked out. So I just put a small throw pillow on my chest & read until I doze. Both pillow & book end up sleeping with me. Congratulations on figuring it out. I saw the pyramids for sale somewhere a while ago and they had a tassel attached to the point (for ease in moving/carrying I suppose....they were pricey at the time)

sik1010 02-04-2013 05:53 AM

Thank you for the Tutorial--What a great gift this will be!

crazythread 02-04-2013 07:13 AM

Thank You Thank You Thank You.....I have been searching the net for this pattern forever. I am an avid reader and this looks wonderful....

Tartan 02-04-2013 07:25 AM

Great tablet pillow! The brown one is my favourite because it looks like a Toblerone chocolate section!

DonnaC 02-04-2013 08:25 AM

Wow, I am impressed at how you figured this out! I've been searching for this type of pattern for months and now I have it. Thank you so very much.

Donna 66 02-04-2013 08:28 AM

Well, that is just very clever and your tutorial is very good. I'm sure it will be used many times--thanks for sharing with all of us :) Donna

primbears 02-04-2013 09:36 AM

That is great, you really did a good job. Now I just have to find the money for the tablet...

catena 02-04-2013 04:04 PM

Thank you. :) my tablet has a slide out keyboard that I sometimes use with a small throw pillow in bed, which is better than nothing but not great. I saw a pillow like this in a catalog that was for a book or ereader, that was pretty pricey, and not big enough for a tablet. It also had the tassel. Which I think was for a bookmark..but was on a thick cord that I think would prevent a book from closing. I couldn't find any tassels at JoAnn fabric or Walmart so decided to leave it out. I briefly considered using some webbing to make a loop as a handle.

I admit it took me about a week of thinking about it and playing with paper before bought the suede fabric. The suede one has pockets too. I cut extra triangles and put them behind the main body one, and folded the original side down and made a hem, then stiched it in. I would hold a pair of reading glasses or a bookmark, or a stylus for the tablet.

That is great - My daughter is an avid reader and uses her Kindle daily- this will make a great Christmas Gift for next year - that is if I can remember to do it. lol. Thanks for the pictures and tute. She gave Dh a Kindle for Christmas this year, will be good for him as well.

How neat, I have a case with keypad that holds mine up but might make one for friend. Thanks for doing the hard work & for sharing :)
