a question for the UK members

I was chatting with my elderly aunt yesterday. She told me that some lady at "the home" told her that England does not have flies. Is this true?
TIA

Oh Yes, I can assure you we do have flies, especially in the warm weather, but not to the extent that we are overrun by them, they are easily dealt with.

Erm yes we do have flies , but not really in numbers , unless there is uncovered rubbish then they come for a picnic :)but also to quell a couple of other things , we have Palm trees where I live , and no fog :)

QuiltNan .... I'll tell you something else England doesn't have much of. Screens on windows. I've stayed in 5 homes in 4 counties, and have seen plenty more ... not a one had screens on their windows. AC is a rarity as well, of course it's not as necessary as it is here in Chicago.

When Graham's daughter was here she complained about the insects at home because she worked odd shifts so the lights were often on at night and would attract the bugs. So we bought her a roll of screening and sent her home with instructions to make a screen for her bedroom window. Instead ... she bought a chicken and made a coop for it out of the screen!!

I guess that's what my aunt's friend was saying... open windows at night with no screens. LOL on the chicken coop.

Yes we have palm trees even right up in the North West of Scotland, they make full use of the Gulf Stream! Here in Wales we get flies but if your house is clean not enough to worry about or use screens, unless you are allergic to midges, which I am. They are not too bad here but in Scotland they are a real menace to the extent that the Soldiers in Inverness barracks are given Avon Skin so Soft spray to keep them away :) http://www.scotsman.com/news/scottis...ines-1-1403152
