I am thinking about getting the new Kindle version. I love to read and so does youngest DD, so it would be for us both.

How do you access the books you buy or get free? Do you store them on the Kindle or somewhere online?

And what else can you do with a Kindle?

My daughter gave me her Kindle, but she didn't tell me how to download more books. I'm going to check back here and see what others say.

You can store up to 3500 books on the second version of the Kindle. I wouldn't be surprised if the storage limit was upped on the newest version. You can download books from Amazon or directly on the Kindle. If they're pay books it will automatically charge the credit or debit card you have on file in your account. It takes just a few seconds for books to download. There are also newspapers and magazines you can subscribe to on the Kindle.

Books are stored on the Kindle. You order them online and they are "sent" to your Kindle.

You order your books directly from Amazon.com or other sources. They will download to your Kindle. Once you are finished with that book you have the choice to remove from the Kindle and it will be archived. When you open the home page there will be a choice of "Archived Items". You can choose this then choose what book that is in your archives that you want to open and it will then download to your Kindle. Hope that makes sense. I am not very techno-minded and have had no problems using the Kindle. Have had mine almost 2 years and love it. Hope this helps.

The Kindle is linked to whatever Amazon account was used to purchase it. You can change this if you want to and the instructions are in the box. Once you have your link to Amazon you go to the Kindle store. You can choose to pay for books to download or you can look at the FREE bestseller liest. Most of the free books are classics that are in the public domain which means they were published before 1923 and have no copyright. There were some free books that were more recent. With a 3500 book storage capacity I don't think you would need to store your ebooks anywhere else. Also just FYI, the 3G Kindle is great if you do not have wireless highspeed internet in your home. If you already have that the regular wi-fi Kindle is all you need. That would save you $50. The only other advantage to the 3G is that you can download overseas if you travel a lot. I personally would download all I could read at home before traveling so I saved my $50. Good luck with your choice!!

The Kindle stores the books, but you can also store them on the computer. If you store them on the computer though, it takes up the space. The Kindle comes equiped so you can get online if at "hotspots" (places with Wifi). If you are not near a place with WiFi, then you can download the book onto your computer and transfer the book over to your Kindle. It takes no time at all. The Kindle comes with the USB cord to transfer the books. I hope this helps!

I just love my new Kindle (3G Wi-Fi). My sister gave me one for my B-Day. It is so neat. I have downloaded free books from Amazon so far. There are so many titles for $0 its crazy.

I have a Kindle and love it. There are many free books available on the Amazon Kindle site (in addition to the older non-copyrighted books); some are current authors but most are independent, or"indie", authors. There's a whole range of indie authors from Christian fiction to vampire stories. You can also find free books on several other sites, such as Smashwords.com. If you go to the Amazon home site, then search in the Kindle store, you'll see a link to Discussions (at the top). This is very helpful to new owners. Anything you need to know can be answered by someone. There's also the support section which someone already mentioned. As for transferring books to the Kindle, you can transfer with the 3G or the WiFi, or with a USB to your computer. If you get your Kindle full with the 3000+ books it'll hold, you can remove from the Kindle and keep it in Archives in your Amazon account.

Just a word of "caution". You cannot download books from libraries to a Kindle. Some who buy the Kindle are disappointed to learn this. The Kindle doesn't support the .epub format which is what libraries use. The Sony reader does, and there may be others like the Nook and Kobo. If you're interested in downloading current books and not paying for them, you might want to consider a reader other than a Kindle.

Probably more information than you were looking for LOL! I'm just passionate about my Kindle :-)

Thanks for all the info on the Kindle.

I got mine for Christmas and I LOVE IT!!!! I have downloaded 90 free books so far, and more to be had. I even get an email daily, with the free offers so I don't have to search. The other thing no one mentioned, is that the Kindle also has audio, so if you don'tfeel like reading, it will do that for you too. YaY!!!!! Love my Kindle!!!

I pulled an article about this a few days ago. I don't have the original link, but I do have links to free book sites if that helps anyone.

You can download books from amazon.com
I have a kindle and I love it. You can either download books you buy from amazon or you can download books from them that are free. I have had mine for just about a year an a half. You will enjoy it if you do get it.
