Quickest quilts to make...

Today was a great day of Celebration..and to spend with family. The day seemed perfect, until about 11:15 am, we heard on our police scanner about a fire. My son called his ex-brother-in-laws cell phone and found out it was his apt building on fire. The fire actually started in the apt above theirs. (My son and his ex brother-in-law) are very close and are always together. They lost everything they own.... including the quilts I just made for their two little ones ages 2 (Nathan) and 6 months (Olivia). Now I need a pattern for the quickest quilt to make for mom and dads bed...and for the little ones. Any ideas.. scrappy if possible as I only have enough fabrics to make scrappy.

If you have strips or an actual jelly roll or two then try a "jelly roll 1600" or a "jelly roll race" you can piece a quilt top 50x 60 ish in less than two hours and I am NOT kidding. Add borders to make up the size or use more strips in the first place to make it wider. If you have to cut strips it will take longer of course. then just simple walking foot on wiggle down the middle of the strips and you'll be done in a flash.

I did make a simple chequerboard quilt for my husband in 12 hours flat when he went out for the day once, it was cross hatch quilted and that quilting is now breaking down. the wiggle method is more hardwearing than straight lines.

For the kids you can use less strips than the 40 width of fabric ones.

rail fence is another one, or just squares of fun prints. good luck.

Since the little ones are so young, what about using a preprinted block for the main part of their quilts? Just add a couple of borders and quilt. I am so sorry to hear of their losses but thankful they are safe. And how wonderful that people care , you are very special to want to make them quilts as quickly as possible. Thank you!

How about rag quilts or a tied quilt then you don't need to worry about quilting them.

How about the 10 minute block? That one is fast & easy to make.

I think a tie blanket. And if you have an embroidery machine you can put their names on it. Sorry to here about the fire. My daughter and grandson had a fire and lost everything also, so I feel for them. They weren't home, so they were safe. Best of luck for them.

How about a strip quilt-as-you-go! By the time, the quilt is done, all you have to do is bind. Very easy and fast.
