Quilt fabric for Scrubs?
I have a friend who wants to sew her own scrubs using prints. Could quilt fabric be used or is there a better cotton weave/weight for scrubs? What sources would you suggest if lighter weight cottons are better?
Thank you! |
In my opinion, quilting cotton would not work well for scrubs. It will wrinkle, fade and rip at the stress points.

Scrubs are mostly made from blends b/c of the wrinkle issue w/ quilting cotton.

I hadn't thought about the wrinkle factor. I'll have her check out cotton/polyblends.
Thanks for the tips. :0) |
i've seen cute fabs at JA's, 60" wide.

With cost af fabric as it is, might be cheaper to buy readymades.....and now they come in many prints too.....

My vet used to have a woman who made her scrubs. They were made out of all cotton.

I have made and used all cotton scrub tops. They do need ironed, but I always ironed my purchased cotton blend scrubs anyway, so no difference to me.

Thrums ... By being "selective" on the cottons chosen, I think your friend could avoid the issues of which Tartan is concerned and have some fantastic and fun scrubs. To say the least about unique and personal!!! She would want to avoid choosing the thin/cheaper cottons. However, there are so many sturdier ones that wash and dryer-dry almost wrinkle free. Depending on her personal fussy-ness towards perfect-press, whether she would want to press. As for the cost .... as with most clothing, sadly, home-mades become more costly than the pre-mades. |
