quilt found

I have been searching all year for a quilt that I have all pieced and decided how I wanted to quilt it with no avail until today. I decided my craft closet was way past due for a good cleaning/sorting and found a diaper bag that was given to me when my 15yr old grandson was born. I had a note pinned to it "quilt inside", when I opened it I found the quilt that has been missing and was so excited. I am not putting it back where I found it as I want to get it marked and started. It is an alphabet quilt that a dear friend of mine embroidered and I pieced, I had put it away as I had some other quilts that needed to get done and forgot where I put it. When I went looking for it I can't tell how many times I moved the diaper bag and did not see the note I pinned to it. Now back to cleaning the closet UGH !!!, but I am a happy camper for my find.

Well that gives me hope. I placed a piece of fabric years ago in a VERY secure place. We are going through the same cleaning process so I am hoping that I find it.

Congrats on finding your missing quilt!

good for you. I loose so many things that it's ridiculous.
Had it in my hand and haven't moved from my chair is the worst :)

Sounds like my house. Gives me hope.

Glad to hear I am not the only one, especially when I sit something down and have not moved. This particular quilt I have been looking for for over a year. Now to find the time to quilt it, maybe this winter as I have too many in various stages and have not even started putting the closet back together. I just tossed everything in the middle of the floor and am starting with what ever is the closest to me.

I spend half of my lifetime looking for fabrics, I got three rippers and I was lucky to have found one. I don't have the tiny ones, I have the F&P ones and they still go AWOL!!

You can see the middle of your floor??!! LOL

You mean there is hope for me yet??? I have a piece of fabric that I used in a quilt and want to use it again....if I can find it. So far it is winning :(

Am currently missing three pink and green quilt tops...all put into a "safe" place to await quilting. Well, I guess it's safe, even I can't find them! They will show up when I am looking for something else.

I do that more often than I want to admit

radarxa 07-25-2014 04:39 AM

That sounds like something I would do...except I would never have had the foresight to attach a note!

LOL! So glad to know I'm not the only one with this problem! Happens frequently and makes me think I'm losing it!

I understand completely! That is one reason I try to re-organize in my sewing room every now and then. I'm always amazed at what I find! I have discovered that if I'm looking for something and can't find it in a short time then I need to quit looking. I start cleaning instead and usually find what I'm looking for. By cleaning up each little area I find I don't go though the same items over and over. Glad you were able to find your quilt!

rosiewell 07-25-2014 08:25 AM

well I bought floral fabric that I just loved and when I received it in the mail I was just thrilled to see that it was as beautiful as the pic on the net, now I cannot find it anywhere, I know I washed it and ironed it and then....I am too stubborn to buy more, it has to be somewhere, my sewing area is not that big really.

I', too, have put many things in 'safe places' only to have the safe place disappear from my memory.

I had bought a large piece of fabric to be used as a neutral background for a quilt. It was all ironed and ready to go, so I put it in a "safe place". Af few weeks later I was ready to use it, and couldn't find it. I ended up buying another piece. Then, after the quilt was finished, I found the first piece: hanging over a hanger in the closet in the sewing room. "Safe", right? I never thought to look there. I had never hung up fabric before.

Same thing happened to me couple years ago. DH dislikes it but I now use clear plastic storage containers and have a list contents in ziplocs at the front inside of container. Have stocked up on the ziplocs ex-large storage bags also.

I am so glad you found your "missing" quilt.

I, too, have missing items that I'm reasonably sure should still be somewhere around!

MargeD 07-26-2014 11:59 AM

Isn't it amazing what you can find when you are cleaning out closets? I once "misplaced" a quilt I was making for my DH on our 25th wedding anniversary and he didn't get it until 5 years later because I had rearranged things in my sewing room to make room for my brother who was visiting so it took a while to figure out where I'd put it. He did get the quilt, just not for our 25th anniversary.

QUILTNMO 07-26-2014 05:23 PM

sounds so familar glad you found it!!

I have decided that my mother's room has this big vortex in it that swallows everything we lose. Every once in awhile it spits something back to us, but not too often.

Good one!! That vortex wouldn't by any chance be the Black hole in my sewing room would it?!!:D
