quilt guild name tags

hello everyone.....I recently joined my first quilt guild and notice a lot of ladies wearing cute name tags I am sure they made them but with the hustle and bustle of the meeting time flies and I never get the time to ask how they make them.......right now I wear a sticker tag with my name on it.....I am looking for ideas to make a tag I do have an embroidery machine thanks so much

Check with your guild. My guild requires everyone to have the same design on the badge. They also gave us the directions to make it.

I agree. When I joined my guild, I was given a notebook with specifics on the pattern & size. Plus we can't win door prizes unless we are wearing our name tag!

I agree. My guild has a specific design for our name tags. If your guild has a website, check there. The pattern may be there.

I made mine from a white piece of fabric, stamped with a rubber stamp, colored it with fabric markers, hand printed my name on it, made it into a tiny, tiny quilt with a lace edge and ribbon to hang it around my neck. Everyone made their own design in the guild I was in and some were quite creative. In my opinion, your name needs to be very clear and easy to read. Have fun.

just curious... how many people are there in your guild and how often do you meet?

I always thought name tags were for the "I'm a new member" or for one-time events like trade conferences.

Do guilds have other similar rules to ensure conformity?

I know one quilter who belongs to a guild. Their members have a tag design for a new member who wears the tag for the first year and it has the day they joined. They display their tags on a design wall with a photo attached. Then the after their year is up they can create their own design for the meetings. If they are going to a quilt show with other members or are helping to host they all wear a tag for their specific guild. I think they have a great idea.

Our guild also has apiece of fabric with our logo stamped on it. you can do anything you want to add to it. I just bordered mine and put a hanging strap with the same fabric. Some of the ladies did really unique things with theirs.

Yes, a guild I just joined (first time ever, I am SO, SO NOT a joiner!) insists that you wear a name tag or pay a small fine. I really didn't want to take the time to make one, so wore a sticky note one time. No one said anything. I hate things around my neck, but I found a premade badge type carrier for $5 at a resort. It has several pockets to put ID and credit cards/cash in, plus a clear plastic covered pocket for my name tag. Now to make the actual tag...

I like it when everyone wears a name tag to each meeting - that way new members can learn names and people who don't remember names well can keep seeing them and hopefully learn them without having to constantly ask people their name.
