AuntieD 11-03-2012 05:11 PM

He looks just so very comfortable!

Tartan 11-03-2012 05:26 PM

Another cold night without power. Nellie must be wanting to snuggle for warmth.

barri1 11-03-2012 06:09 PM

You have a great attitude.. I am tired of the situation. I have electric, cable, but no heat, or hot water. I have my mom, brother, sister inlaw, and the two kids hanging out, off, and on with me, as they have no electric etc.. They are close to a sub station that is rebuilding.. As for the dogs.. My guy is freezing his behind off, and the doodle is enjoying the cold. Now we are being warned about the looters coming through our area, as a lot of people left their houses

ArtsyOne 11-03-2012 06:20 PM

I am so sorry to hear about what you are experiencing on the east coast and am thinking positive thoughts your way. Re Nellie - I'm a bulldog lover (just found some bulldog fabric!) and she looks like such a sweetie.

QultingaddictUK 11-03-2012 06:23 PM

What a darling picture.

I am sorry that you are having to deal with this situation. Hang in there as things will be getting better as each day goes by. We have gone thru 2 major ice storms and we survived. Electric was out for at least 2 weeks both times. Our water was off 10 days the first storm. We do have a propane cookstove and we heat with wood, so we were warm and not hungry. When the second storm came we were prepared and decided to just have fun. We had parties every night with close family and friends. Lots of laughter and beer. Just tonight as we were talking about Sandy we started remembering our ice storms. You will be telling stories about Sandy for many years.

I will continue praying for everyone that was affected by Sandy.

ShabbyTabby 11-03-2012 08:20 PM

I am so sorry to hear of all the miserable conditions there on the East coast. Have been watching the news daily and my heart just aches for all the ones who have lost so much. I pray everything will be restored quickly. Can't imagine no heat, no electricity and even food is scarce in some areas. May God Bless you all soon. (((HUGS)))

I remember when I was a kid the electricity went out and we were the only ones in the neighborhood that had a gas stove and an old gas furnace that didn't need and electric starter. All the neighbors came over and cooked meals and heated baby bottles at our house. We had lots of playmates for the day. Although I think my mom was exhausted by the end of the day when the electricy came back on. Try to make the best of it. The world as we know it now is so dependent on electricity. Just hang in there.

alwayslearning 11-04-2012 05:02 AM

Nellie looks like she feels safe! Thanks for sharing something so sweet.

barri1 11-04-2012 05:50 AM

I do have a positive attitude. My brother brought over his electric heater. I don't like using it, but need to take the edge off the cold. The family should be over pretty soon, and I will be cooking.. Gas fueled stove is a nice thing.. My sister in law, and brother will be going back, and forth between places, as they are afraid of looters.. They live on the edge of an area that has looters, and it's in an upscale area. All their neighbors are not around, and the alarm systems are not working.. I guess I should mention that I live in a one bedroom apt.. Socrates is 18 lbs, and doesn't like to share toys. Doodle is 85, big,a nd boisterous..

pmrosie 11-04-2012 06:16 AM

I, too, am without heat/electric. I have the town wired...lol. Keep an upbeat attitude and find new ways to meet the chanllenges. By the way, I may not have heat or electric, but the dog is welcome in my house! What a cutie!

My heart goes out to you - and my prayers! Take a deep breath and hang in there. if there is anything I can do to help - someone to whine and complain to, feel free. We are doing pretty well except no gasoline. My husband is a physician and on call so he has had to go to the hospital every day at least once (very sick transplant patients). Tuesday is my gas day. I'm taking my quilting and my ipod with an audio book loaded and will brave the 3-4 hour lines.
Re looting. After this, I plan to get a permit and get a handgun. My husband was an Israeli army officer and knows how to use and I will take a couple courses. I think one shot fired above the head of a looting mob will make them think twice...

mrsponcho1 11-04-2012 02:18 PM

Kathryn, you think like I do regarding weapons. Just be sure and shoot straight into air or straight into ground. Don't want someone to say you were shooting at them or pointing a gun at them (lol). We don't want to have to get you out of jail, so you can post here (lol).

Prayers are continuing for everyone that was affected by Sandy. Hugs

MaryStoaks 11-04-2012 04:41 PM

Too cute!

Sdwill 11-04-2012 04:58 PM

Nellie is a cutie. I've always wanted a bull dog. Praying for everyone affected by Sandy. I've been without power before due to ice storms and straight line winds. The winds took out power out in July one time. I would rather it take it out during the winter. We can moved to the deer camp for wood heat. I just can't handle the 100+ temps anymore.

Caswews 11-05-2012 06:29 AM

so peaceful and comfortable. At least puppy has a chair and candlelight; so many do not ....Prayers for all....

MimiBug123 11-05-2012 10:58 AM

Nellie is precious. Of course, being from GA, and our university mascot being a bulldog name UGA, I'm not prejudiced or anything. Hope everything gets back to normal for you soon. In the meantime, you have an adorable companion.

Jennie and Me 11-05-2012 12:35 PM

Oh, my, Nellie is so adorable!! My daughter wants an English Bulldog so badly, but has an elderly Bassett who would be devastated if he had to share affection with a pup.
I'm so sorry for all of you "Sandy" victims. Being without our creature comforts is no fun. As to the looters, I will never understand the mentality of someone who kicks another person when they are down. Their energy could be put to helping others. I'll never understand evil. I'm with Kathryn on the gun thing. If I lived in a city I would definitely have one.
Stay safe.

marla 11-05-2012 05:22 PM

I am so sorry. yes, After any disaster, there are looters, unfortunately. I hope you have your cell phones charged. The police should be blocking off areas that are damaged so these people can't get through by car.
I went through it but only waited 5 miserable days & nights. I had every warm hat, coat and sweater on that could fit over several layers. I also had piled on many blankets i could find. I pray you stay well and they get the elec. going for you today. God Bless you.

We are making progress with the repairs. I have everything at home. Mom is up, and running.. She even waited on line for gas.. I have house guests as my brother, and his family still don't have anything.. They are piled in here with their 85 lb. doodle.. a college kid with mental issues, and a teenage girl who is in a panic over college applications... All her friends are going to Israel next year, and my brother wants her to veer from her comfort zone.. My office is another story. I have one that is up, and running, and the other that has no electric, and they don't know when it will happen.. The looters are a big problem.. My office that is in the scocioeconomically disadvantaged neighborhood that has a big problem with looting, and rioting.. My secretary says that some of the people are hungry. They have no money, and the EBT cards aren't working, and they are miserable.. I have to get over to get the mail.. If there is any.. Since we are in family practice, the people that don't know our office think we have major drugs, but anyone that does, will realize we don't prescribe any narcotics.. hence.. We have bars on our windows..

scrapnut 11-05-2012 09:31 PM

My home/family has survived three tornadoe strikes on our home. I COMPLETELY understand your misery, but I would suggest making lemonade out of lemons. We used our time to help friends who suffered a greater loss than us and found ourselves talking and enjoying each others company more since we had no television to compete for our time. We created some wonderful family memories!

barri1 11-07-2012 05:00 PM

Okay, so we are having a snow storm that is about 6" and there are more trees down. We have one office that has no electric, and it's not a good situation. it's in an area that is being looted, etc. Some of the pharmacies are closed, and we are having a problem with patients running out of meds. Some of the patients Rx's are in the computer, but others we have to go by the bottles the patients are taking to other pharmacies. I am very grateful that I have everything back. As for having quality time.. I'm really laughing.. Imagine having six adults with six computers in your house.. Even my 84 yo mom. I can see my brother, and sister inlaw getting worn down with the lack of power in their house. They aren't going to get power back until their house is inspected by LIPA, as there are houses on their block that got flooded. My lab tech has a big problem as her basement was flooded, and their circuits are in the basement, and they were covered in water.. I came up with an idea to take my staff out, and hang out for an evening.. I guess this too shall pass..

bjrusty 11-10-2012 04:33 AM

He's so cute, hope things get better up there, stay warm. Barb
