It Rained!

First measurable rain we're had since the end of May. Thunder and lightening too. It was great to see things perking up this morning.

Tink's Mom 07-19-2012 06:08 AM

I know!!! We had 2"...only problem was that it came down so hard that most of it probably rolled right off instead of sinking in.
The dog had a bad night with all the thunder and lightning...she barked at the sky a couple of times.
I have pulled a whole lot of weeds this morning...wet ground makes them come out with roots.

joyce blint 07-19-2012 09:16 AM

Good for you!!! We need it here too in SE Ia, but I'm glad somebody got some....and without any wind or hale damage.

Lisa_wanna_b_quilter 07-19-2012 09:37 AM

Still nothing here in the central part of Illinois. :(

barri1 07-19-2012 09:38 AM

We had some awesome rain, thunder, and lightning.. I was in the office, and I'm sure the dog was having issues..

Helovesme 07-19-2012 11:31 AM

Finally got rain in central Texas....lots of it. So good to see everything green-ing up again. It did rain hard, thunderstorms and fabulous lightning shows! Finally started comin' down in a nice steady drizzle so it could soak into everything really good. Thank you LORD.

ILoveToQuilt 07-19-2012 11:38 AM

Send it our way. New England needs it bad!

nygal 07-19-2012 11:39 AM

Lucky you!!!! We got a few inches lately too but we could still use a lot more here in Eastern New York.

Rylandon3 07-19-2012 03:16 PM

I'm from NW Illinois and we got in on the same rain...lots of lightning and thunder here, too!

burchquilts 07-19-2012 03:27 PM

We got some, too... not enough to make a different -- just enough to make it more humid. I have my sprinkler on right now, tho I think it may be too late to salvage much.

decky 07-19-2012 03:44 PM

We had a quarter inch last night, but just south of us they had over an inch and some places had hail. I think the whole nation needs rain and hope it comes soon for everone. We may get more rain next week, sure hope so.

alfosa421 07-19-2012 04:25 PM

Us too Thank GOD-rained off and on for over an hour in various parts of town-so desperately needed everywhere

Ruby the Quilter 07-19-2012 05:05 PM

We have had some rain. - but everywhere in Texas needs it-

CraftyCricket 07-19-2012 05:22 PM

Got rain here too. It was a nice change of pace, to bad it's going to get hot again by the weekend.

Latrinka 07-19-2012 07:17 PM

We've been fortunate with rain, but it's so hot and humid! I'm ready for winter!

Gladygirl 07-19-2012 07:28 PM

WHAT IS RAIN ?????? West of Des Moines has had several rains--east side of town hasn't had a drop. Our air conditioner quit yesterday in the 102 degree heat so we pulled all the curtains and turned on fans trying to contain the cool air. Repairman was here this noon and got it going again. Had talked to him this spring about replacing the 26 yr old furnace and air this fall so he didn't even charge to fix it today--how great is that !!!! My HERO!!

Joy.lynn 07-19-2012 08:21 PM

We need some sunshine. Some crops are turning yellow. We just cut the grass in our yard with haying equipment because it has been too wet to use our riding mower.

Pilgrim 07-19-2012 08:22 PM

We received two tenths of an inch. The crops are going to be really bad this year without rain.

nivosum 07-19-2012 08:56 PM

The next day after I watered the bushes and some of the yard, we enter a rainy period. Today around the Jackson, MS area, we had 2 1/2 inches of rain. It has been raining off and on all week and 70% chance for tomorrow and 50% chance for Saturday. I was happy to see it. August around here is usually dry so maybe we have enough to get the bushes and trees through until the rains comes again. I hope the rest of the country gets some soon.

auntpiggylpn 07-19-2012 09:35 PM

We finally got rain today too! It rained almost all day!!! It was such a wonderful thing to see and it broke our 23 day record of over 90 degree days (with the majority of the days in the triple digits). I enjoyed the mid 70's today very much!

Bella had a bad night a couple of days ago. She is such a good dog, we couldn't get made at her. Even when she tore the insulation off the water pipes in the shop and ate the pipe warmer too.

Tonight we put her in the garage, at least she didn't eat my truck...lol

mcdaniel023 07-20-2012 03:21 AM

Rain here too! Raining again this morning. Yeah!!!!!

quiltykim 07-20-2012 03:43 AM

Hallelujah! Wasn't it great?? I live in Wisconsin too

Just wondering, all you quilters with animals that don't like storms, have you tried those security vests for the dogs?
Think that is what they are called. A snug vest or some sort that makes them feel more secure. We don't have that problem so don't know how they work. We are more feline infested, one canine, the noise and lightening does drive a couple of the cats into hiding if they aren't kenneled ahead of time.

And as always, if you get animals for quilting buddies and not breeding, please spay or neuter the animal to help cut down on the needless waste of life at the pounds.

They are called "Thunder shirt" of all things...hehe.
Our Bella would probably eat that too. She seems to do better in the garage where there are no windows. We have a night light in there and a fan to keep her cool. It also seems to drown out the thunder noise.

We have had a little rain over the last couple of days but it hasn't been enough to say so. I would love to have a nice steady rain all night long. It has cooled off yesterday and today and it was a wonderful night to sleep. I'm not a hot weather person anyway, but this summer has not been a lot of fun.

Lois-nounoe 07-20-2012 12:19 PM

It's so strange to say "What a beautiful day!" when it is raining cats and dogs! LOL We've only had a couple of hard down pours each night for the past three and only for about 15 mins but every little bit helps!

Marge L. 07-20-2012 12:37 PM

We need rain so badly. Corn in firing & beans don't look the best either. Around here, the Iowa weather guage is a bottle cap. Lord, please.

We have a 4 yo rescued Shepherd Mix, Cooper, that hates the storms and has terrible seperation anxiety. We have a Thunder Shirt for him but we haven't found that it is very effective for him. He wears it proudly and doesn't try to get out of it at all. He just prefers that his security come from one of his humans as opposed to a snug cotton knit shirt. When there is thunder, fireworks or idiots shutting off guns celebrating a holiday (we live in the city limits), we just close all the blinds and turn up the TV and sit on the couch with him. Not always convenient but we rescued him not knowing his past. He obviously was neglected as he only weighed 50# and was heartworm positive. He doesn't like male strangers at all. He has lots of energy and not very good manners so we are pretty sure that his previous owners did not treat him well. We love him anyway and just take his behaviors in stride. We have had him almost a year and have been able to quell some of his obnoxious behaviors but he reverts quickly without constant training. Okay, I digressed, oops sorry! There are mixed reviews about the Thunder Shirt. Just do a google search!

I am in the NW so no problem with rain, but had quite a thunder storm this morning. One crack was very loud and close. Then this afternoon the elec. went off. I guess they were repairing what ever that bolt hit...Hope you folks back east get the rain you need...

Caswews 07-20-2012 07:16 PM

I wish it would rain .. keep down everyone's forest fires ...
