Rather strange don't you think?

My stove needed a new receptacle for one of the big burners. So I find this one at Home Depot and get it home.
I didn't notice the small writing on the package until this morning. I bought this a couple of weeks ago and left it on the workbench in the garage.

My stove is GE.........but................(read small print)

Kimkankwilt 06-17-2015 07:12 AM

You would think a "GE" part would fit a "GE" appliance....that's really lame.

tessagin 06-17-2015 07:15 AM

Call them or take it back. As long as you still have the receipt, it shouldn't be a problem. I would send the photo to GE in an email and ask them to explain. Maybe a very big typo!

CookyIN 06-17-2015 07:21 AM

Wonder if the package was printed in China and that's a burp in language translation? I know, I know... GE should have had someone who read and caught that, but it's the world we live in now.

bearisgray 06-17-2015 01:09 PM

Who would have thought?????

helou 06-17-2015 01:18 PM

strange indeed!

aronel 06-17-2015 05:18 PM

Too funny!! Frustrating I know - but funny.

Chasing Hawk 06-17-2015 05:22 PM

My husband installed it. It actually gives better contact than the other three burners connectors. This replacement does in fact look exactly like the originals, who knows what was going through their minds when designing the package.

coopah 06-17-2015 06:31 PM

Oh, geeze! I hate when that type of thing happens. Someone was certainly clueless when they let that packaging go through that way. Glad it worked for you, though!

tuckyquilter 06-17-2015 08:39 PM

I laughed at that label. Strange indeed.

jitkaau 06-18-2015 02:29 AM

It is as confusing as the parka I just bought which has a label that says:" Do not wash or dry clean"...(?)

quiltybarb 06-18-2015 03:42 AM

Send it to Consumer Reports Magazine....this would be perfect......

Geri B 06-18-2015 04:18 AM

Save that packaging....might be worth something. Like coins, stamps with oops!

...what to do...just burn it? How sad....proofreaders/quality control needs watchdogs! Did you write that company? I always contact the company when I see/read errors....love to wipe their faces in their messes!

Definitely seems like a 'translation issue' on the packaging - especially since it's identical to the one removed. As someone else mentioned - it is the world in which we now live. Sad.

annette1952 06-18-2015 04:47 AM

OMG! How ridiculous!

ManiacQuilter2 06-18-2015 04:48 AM

Strange indeed that GE parts would NOT work on GE stoves. That is lame !!

Seaside gal 06-18-2015 05:16 AM

Labels are funny sometimes. I got a new shirt and the washing instructions on the tag said "Wash this when dirty".

Mariposa 06-18-2015 05:18 AM

Hmmm, makes one wonder....

nativetexan 06-18-2015 07:04 AM

If it was made in China, I'd still worry about it. just keep an eye on it.

KalamaQuilts 06-18-2015 07:42 AM

GE probably makes thousands of parts, there was probably a packet right beside this one specifically for GE and Hotpoint

I had a coat once that had on the care instructions
"do not boil" :)

It usually is a translation issue, since the products are usually made out of the US along with the printing. The company may have technical writers, but obviously no grammar check.

I've noticed more stories in print as well where there is not a grammar check, either in hard copy or online. A sentence can contain the wrong spelling of a word and/or be missing a word and it still goes out. They just use Spellcheck and let it go.

There are several shows on TV which have segments for "bloopers", I'm thinking of Ellen DeGeneres as an example as well as TV bloopers.

TacoMama 06-18-2015 05:16 PM

Glad it worked for you. It probably is made in China. Strange.

quiltingcandy 06-18-2015 05:24 PM

If I were you next time you go to that store check to see if there is an item made for your stove. GE probably makes parts for a great many brands and has one that is better suited for your stove.

Jay Leno used to have a spot on his show "Bought at the 99cent store." And everything that he showed that was not packaged in the US had some very unique wording. One item I remember was the American Indian with a machine gun. And another item he read the instructions they made no sense.

romanojg 06-21-2015 04:07 AM

I'm sure they do make for your stove its just that this one is made for different ones. Most companies make for more than one brand. I understand, I probably would have seen the GE and thought the same thing. That's why things that I'm not familiar with, I read all over to make sure I get what I need. But like most, that doesn't always work. I'm sure the store will take it back.
