if your all stocking up for the future, what about money? Aren't you laying out a lot of money on things you may or may not need? I really don't understand. Today is a gift , tomorrow is someting I try not to worrie about because it may not be mine.. Just asking , what are we stocking up for?

Hear, hear

Hear, hear!

Sorry, didn't mean to repeat myself! Looks like not all the glitches are out yet.

i understand what you are saying, but i stock up on coffee when it is on sale - tho my stock up gets used pretty fast!!! if i die before i get to use it, suppose i really won't care then.

I'm going at my life as usual. Sometimes shortages are only fear activated. I have always had to watch my spending....nothing has changed:)I am currently making fabric. What many quilters throw away, sewn together makes beautiful quilts:)

They are talking about prices of many items increasing 5 to 10 times in the next couple of years. It's scarey-wages arent going up. Doesn't really stretch the budget to turn your discretionary money into foodstocks, in my opinion. (in other words, instead of going to a movie or to a casino, buying staples isn't abad idea, imho).

food stocks get old too, even if they are canned. they all have expiration dates on them. Only 2 here and we don't eat that much. I am trying to lose weight and I have lost 7 lb in the last 2 weeks.

My daughter stocks up on whatever she will use for her family of 5 - if she can get a deal she shares with others.

Last week she got 12 boxes of cereal, 5 gallons of milk for $1.50 at a local grocery store. They had a deal - buy 3 boxes of cereal and get milk free...she had coupons and there was a rebate. She can't use all 12 in a reasonable time so she took some to her church food pantry. The milk she froze.

You never know when the roof will leak!

We have been saving $ and still stocking up but we will rotate through the stored food before it expires. It's better to be prepared.

Using that logic, why save cash either?

I try to balance saving cash with stocking up on things I love or anticipate using within a reasonable amount of time, when the price is right. To do otherwise means spending MORE money on those same things later, which doesn't seem very smart to me.

I was a Girl Scout. I suppose I just like to be prepared. :)

The key is to stock up on things that you WILL need and will eventually use. This isn't wasteful. The only thing you lose is the interest you would have earned having the money in the bank - and these days, with interest rates as they are, I'd rather have enough toilet paper in the house. <grin>

I'll buy two or three of something if it's on sale, and I have a spare freezer so I do keep a fair stock of meat in there when I find it on sale. Other than that, I'm not a "stocker" as it takes up precious space that I don't have.

Wait ... we're NOT talking about fabric stocking are we? I mean, that doesn't count.

I stock up on the items that I regularly use. By doing so I can save money by getting them on sales/specials/coupons, and I am money ahead.
I can always apply my savings to my ever increasing electric bill or to help compensate for rising gas prices :D:D:D

amyjo 04-05-2011 06:30 PM

I made sure I bought enough toilet paper to last for a while. That is the only thing I don't want to run out of. I can live without a lot of things, but not toilet paper. lol

I understand stocking up on good deals, when they come along. The only thing we are stocking up on is reg. light bulbs and thats because I'am upset with the gov. mandateing the use of the new light bulbs, how dare they tell us what kind of light bulbs to use then charge us (around here) 7.00 dollars for two new light bulbs that have mercery in them and then charge us.50cents to despose of them, and no they don't last any longer at least the ones I purchasedtwo of them burnt out as soon as I put them in. Oh well off my soap box. your right no since in hoarding money either , off to my LQ S :D
