Why not see if she'd like for you to paint it another color. Your feelings were not hurt but I'm sure you'd like for her to be able to enjoy it.

You must be a VERY understanding person. I would have been thrilled to get such a beautiful, handmade gift that was made with me in mind. I don't know if I would take the chance of making something else for her or not, I think I would just get her a gift card. My opinion.
