Remember when?
As I spread margarine on my cracker to go with my chicken soup today, I had a chuckle. Remember when you had to squeeze the little package of food colouring before adding it to margarine? My Granny used to give me this " special" job. I loved it and felt so important.

my mother swears that this was my job, but i don't remember it at all. i must've been very young

I had margarine once in my life and that was enough when it left a coating that tasted of plastic. So gross. Nothing but butter for this family...My mother never purchased margarine either.
|
I remember working that package for my mother!!! As an adult I have opted to use only real butter, though.
|
I remember the packaged margarine. You had to break the little button first. Gosh, I don't want to think about how many yrs. ago that was. They couldn't color it because the dairy companies didn't want people to think it was butter.

No, I don't remember that, don't really recall hearing it until now.
|
While I have no memory of having to stir food coloring into margarine I do remember spreading on crackers to eat with my chicken noodle soup. I didn't know other people did that. Thanks for the sweet memory

I'm in my 60's and I don't remember that. Only butter in my house now!
|
I remember packets coming in the margarine packaging but I don't remember us using the coloring. I think we must have just used it white (but my memory often fails me). Did the packet have flavoring too or just the color? (My memory is from our "old" house so this was pre-1967).

I seem to remember white margarine. evidently Mother never squeezed anything. Funny, the first time I had real butter, I thought it terrible!!
