Savannah GA -- where to stay...quilt shops to visit?

My husband and I are planning a visit to Savannah in October, around the week of the 20th. Not sure how long we will stay but it's our 9th anniversary so hopefully the weather will cooperate and we can be real tourists.

I've lived in Atlanta my whole life and I've never been to Savannah so I'd really like to make the most of the visit in the short time we are there. I'd also like to visit a quilt shop or two.

Hoping some of you ladies from that area can direct us to a nice hotel or B&B that won't eat into my quilt fabric budget too much. Don't really need to stay in the heart of the city but would like to have the ability to get there and take a couple tours and eat at some nice lunch and dinner places and see the sites, not to be missed.

I love old architecture and nature so anything along those lines would be perfect.

Would love your advice!

Thanks,

Are you driving to Savannah? We stayed about ten miutes in the "burbs" at a Comfort Inn. Once you ark dwnown you canwalk or trolley all over the area. We LOVED Savannah. and Tybee isand. You will have to drive to Tybee.

check hotel ratings on Trip Advisor. This was 5/6 years ago for us.
