The first one should be; six of one, half dozen of the other. It means one choice is about the same as the other choice.

DH is in his 13th year as active duty army... and some of their rules, regulations, and decisions seem incredibly odd to me lol

This one came about when you actually bought donuts from a baker. If he knew you and your family (as our baker did) you'd order a dozen donuts and he'd give you an extra just to be nice. This often happened to me and if I was really lucky I'd get a jelly donut. YUM! Those are still the best tasting donuts I've ever had.

they always stopped what they were doing... at least long enough to look at me and say 'HUH?'
I still say it from time to time
