scavenged treasure
My kids tease me, but I always gawk at "treasures" put out by the street on the day prior to trash day. Yesterday while babysitting at my DS's I noticed the neighbor across the street putting out some furniture including some pink painted pieces. I texted by DDIL to ask if she wanted me to snag any. Before she could get back to me, someone grabbed the tall dresser & a bookcase. I went over to look over the pieces left, with my 4yo nonverbal grandson in hand, and the two guys there carried across a nice long dresser with 4 center drawers & a door cabinet on each end, along with the bookcase. I was really happy when DS & DIL got home & were really happy with my "treasures". You would not believe the goodies I have gotten this way---best one of all was a washing machine for the cottage! Just needed a hose unclogged & it's been running fine for over 8 years!! Just goes to prove: one man's junk is another man's treasure!

I love getting free stuff this way!! Around here after a yard sale people sometimes put out the remainders in a "Free" pile. DH, who drives, knows to stop at all of those!!

not only can some great treasures be found, but i consider it 'recycling' as well... great for the environment.

I have found so many things this way. Some brandnew like a really nice loveseat. A lot of stuff in my area.

There are thrift stores and there are thrift stores. Some, I frequent because of the GREAT prices. Yard Sales--- love 'em. I picked up two old wooden oval picture frames on Sat. for $1.00/both. That was my highlight of the day after a $%$#^#&%#% deer decided she wanted to re-arrange the front of my car.

You can't beat curb side shopping!!!!

I was a trash picker from a young age. One year I passed this trash can that had all these rectangles of cloth. I got some and when I got home my mother chastised me for "digging in the trash" again. When she saw the rectangles she got curious. They were wool samples for garments probably 5 x 12. She asked if they had any more and I was driven there with a paper sack and filled it up. She wanted me to keep a look out for any more. We had enough for her to make 2 double quilts at least.

I found a singer from the 1966's about twenty years ago.. It's from Great Britain, and it's a pretty shade of green.. I'm still using it

My sister won a new side-by-side refrigerator so they put their other refrigerator at the curb with a "free" sign on it. Two days later it was still there so they turned the sign over and wrote $50.00 on it. It was gone the next morning!

also, remember freecycle.com You put what you want to get rid of and someone will take it, this is a grass-roots movement, that has spread across the US to prevent items from ending up in the landfill.
