Scorching Summer Heat

The temperature just hit 45 degrees centigrade here in little old Adelaide S.A. Hope this warms you up if you are having snow. We have all our fingers and toes crossed that there will not be any bushfires this next week as we go through a week of scorching heat.

francie yuhas 01-03-2013 10:12 PM

Maybe if I just close my eyes and think a while, the toes will warm up! Stay safe; it doesn't sound like much fun.

woody 01-03-2013 10:44 PM

Pretty hot here in Canberra too, and even hotter tomorrow, (around 39 degrees C, not as bad as 45 though) I hope there will be no bushfires either, stay cool and stay safe :)

Mrs B 01-04-2013 04:07 AM

Woody, you've probably heard about the bushfire in Tasmania. Some 60 buildings have been destroyed. We had one fire here in S.A. but no casualties so far. A little respite tomorrow only 32 degrees here but the rest of the week is set to be a heat wave with up to 40 degrees again by Thursday.

AuntieD 01-04-2013 06:55 AM

Sorry to hear about the brushfires. Hope your weather cools off soon.

PurplePassion 01-04-2013 07:15 AM

My sister sent me an email , telling me how hot it was there. It is to warm up to 29 degrees F today in MN. Please send some of your warm winds this way.

binkister 01-04-2013 07:37 AM

Yes, please send us some of the warm weather here. My aunt and uncle live in Springwood and she said it is too hot for her now there.

nativetexan 01-04-2013 07:57 AM

my friends quilt group get together was cancelled due to the heat there. the building isn't cooled.
here in Colorado we are still having fires, even though it's Winter!!

alwayslearning 01-04-2013 08:14 AM

Yes, remember Australia uses Centigrade, the U.S. uses Fahrenheit. 45F is chilly, 45C is darned hot. The living in fear of the brush fires is nerve wracking, and they can be started for such stupid and careless reasons. Hope you stay safe and comfortable!

sampson001 01-04-2013 11:56 AM

We have been quite hot here in Culburra Beach, and this morning there is a smell of smoke and it is hazy outside, praying no major fires.

LindaJR 01-04-2013 12:05 PM

Hard to think of warm places when I am sitting here wraped up on a balnket on the PC. I hope you do not get any fires, they seem the most scary of all natural desasters and most of them are from carelessness of humans I am sure. Be safe. Take care.

sampson001 01-04-2013 12:12 PM

Fires are dreadful, and they are not always caused by carelessness. Some bush fires are deliberately lit and I for the life of me don't understand the thrill firebugs get by lighting life threatening fires.

Yep we in WA have just had ten days with temps over 39C and up to 45 (113F). The nights are worse when it does not cool down 25C (77F). We live in the hills of Perth and know the fires or threats of fires are the worse and my thoughts are with you all.

Holy Moly!!! 45 celcius = 113 fahrenheit!! Amazing!!! And grossly uncomfortable.

Be safe!

sampson001 01-04-2013 08:21 PM

To our friends in Tasmania have been watching the news on the fires in your State, our love and prayers are with you

MaryMo 01-04-2013 08:26 PM

agree with alwayslearning .... I have to remember body temp is around 37 degrees C. so 45 degrees C is over 100 degrees F. That is way too warm for anybody. The heat the US suffered last summer seems to have moved to southern hemisphere. Weather is abnormal everywhere!

catmcclure 01-05-2013 04:57 AM

I just spent the last week in Missouri (9* to 25* Fahrenheit - wind chill 0* to 15*). I returned to my previously cold winter (41* to 57* Fahrenheit) near San Francisco and realized it's really summer here.

katesnanna 01-05-2013 06:54 AM

My thoughts are with you. We lived in SA twice. DH was in the Airforce. I remember writing to my folks back here in QLD that I knew what the end of the Earth would look like, 40 odd degrees, a howling wind and red sand straight off the desert. We were in Gawler in 2004 when it was 45 degrees (in a caravan). We were traveling back from WA.

It was heart breaking to see a town wiped out. I remember the Adelaide fires of '83. We lived at Elizabeth then. I also remember the terrible fires in Tassie in '67. A fire ball is something I have never had to face personally and hope I never do. I can remember in '83 seeing one on TV. It ran up a hill, dance along the ridge the ran back down to a valley. One of the most frightening things I've ever seen.

Caswews 01-05-2013 08:04 AM

Be safe and enjoy the weather while you can. Its been just freezing here; what I would give for a day above 32 degrees!.LOL
